Marie Helvin – Former Supermodel & Britain’s Next Top Model Judge Says She’s So Broke She May Have To Take Up Job in Whole Foods
Marie Helvin, a former model who is now 69, reveals that she is so broke she may have to apply for a job in a supermarket. She was one of the “original” supermodels and worked for designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, and Valentino.
The former model has “used up” most of her savings
Marie Helvin revealed that she worked in TV and radio and covered everything from books to travel, but work seems to have dried up because of the Coronavirus pandemic. She told MailOnline, “I’m completely self-reliant, and I don’t know what I am going to do, because during the pandemic period I’ve used up most of my savings now. I’m seriously thinking about going home”.
She says she will work in Whole Foods in Hawaii
She talked about getting an opportunity to work in Whole Foods in Hawaii, she said, “They have less stigma about age with getting jobs. You can get a job at Whole Foods in your 80s in America. Put it this way, I wouldn’t apply to work in Whole Foods here. But back home in Hawaii, if I needed to, I’d go there and work.”
Marie Helvin started modeling at the age of 15
She started her modeling career at the age of 15 and worked with famous designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, and Valentino throughout her career. She has been involved with a lot of famous men, including chef Marco Pierre White, Peter Gabriel, and even former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. She ultimately married photographer David Bailey and they eventually filed for a divorce in 1985. She walked away with a divorce settlement of £100,000.
She has not married anyone since then but got in a four-year relationship with the Duchess of Cornwall’s brother, Mark Shand. He, unfortunately, died in 2014 at the age of 62. Marie says it would be “good to have some financial support to cover the expenses of getting older.”
