Marvel Better Not Ignore Sebastian Stan’s Accidental Million-dollar Idea For a Winter Soldier Spin-off
- Sebastian Stan has portrayed Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier in the MCU for years.
- He wished that the Winter Soldier could have a spin-off movie in which his back story could be explored.
- The Apprentice star insists that the version of Thunderbolts* that fans will witness soon is the perfect one.
Marvel does a great job when it comes to keeping the details of its projects safe. It would be even more wonderful if they were to listen to their stars’ wishes and make them come true. Well, if not all, then at least, Sebastian Stan’s. The actor has played Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier in the franchise for years and has recently addressed an unfulfilled wish for the character.
Winter Soldier is one of the anti-heroes in the MCU. He made his entry into the franchise as a friend of Captain America. His backstory was never really explored in detail as the story continues to move forward with him being a part of the Avengers. Stan has admitted that exploring Bucky’s backstory was something he wanted to do, and it sounds like the perfect spin-off idea.
Marvel Could Do Fans and Sebastian Stan a Huge Favor By Making a Winter Soldier Spin-off Movie
Sebastian Stan began his acting career in the 1990s, but it did not take off until 2003 when he landed a role in the TV series, Law & Order. He starred in many movies and shows before he landed the role of Bucky Barnes in 2011. He made his MCU debut with the movie Captain America: The First Avenger.
He reprised the character in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, but this time as Winter Soldier, a brain-washed assassin working for HYDRA. By the end of the film, Captain America manages to remind the Winter Soldier who he really is, which sets the stage for Bucky’s eventual redemption. However, we never get to see Bucky’s transformation into the assassin.
Stan recently appeared as a guest on Josh Horowitz’s podcast, Happy Sad Confused (via YouTube). During the interview, he addressed his unfulfilled of exploring Bucky’s life story in more detail.
I almost wish that we would have explored more of that before he, because you know there’s that whole situation where he’s having memory lapses. I thought it would have been interesting to go, you know, ‘What it would have been like for him to wake up, after that fall, and missing the one arm, doesn’t know where he is?’ — just like that whole process of him losing the emotions, and becoming this thing, you know? It would have been interesting to see.
This would certainly make for a good spin-off and one that fans would definitely love to watch. The character has gone through a lot of development in all these years, but it would be interesting to see how Bucky became Winter Soldier.
Sebastian Stan Is Confident About the Version of Thunderbolts* the Audience Will See
Elsewhere in the interview, Horowitz asked Stan if it was true that there is a version of his upcoming MCU film, Thunderbolts*, that fans will never get to see because it was revealed that the film’s script had undergone major changes.
The I, Tonya actor confirmed that it was true, but also emphasized that the version of the movie fans will see is as good as it gets.
There were a couple iterations from what I’ve heard. There was a script that we had before the strike and then the one we ended up with. And I do feel like we ended up in a better spot. 100%.
He further said that he loved working with Jake Schreier, who completely transformed the tone of the film into one that people have not witnessed before. The A Different Man star said that it is funny, but it is also rooted in reality and has the perfect balance of everything.
