Marvel Has Been Making One Big Mistake with His Recent Flops and Ryan Reynolds May Be the One to Fix it With Hugh Jackman in Deadpool 3
The year 2023 has proven very unlucky for Disney as well as its franchises like Marvel. Ever since the beginning of the year many of Marvel’s shows and movies have not made any major earnings at the box office. In the wake of back-to-back failures, discussion has been around that Ryan Reynolds’s highly anticipated Deadpool 3 will bring in a new ray of hope for Marvel at the box office.
A Bad Year for Marvel at the Box Office
As the trend of box office failure for the Marvel Cinematic Universe continues, fans are rethinking the superhero dilemma. From Ant-Man 3 to The Flash a series of Disney and MCU movies and shows has not performed as per the expectation of the fans as well as the creators.
Even though Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania made $473 million worldwide the movie did not live up to the comparison to the MCU’s usually high standards. Since the movie was the first project of MCU’s Phase 5 and the second of the Multiverse Saga, the movie indeed did not stand up to the standards. Also, despite the fact that the movie introduced Jonathan Majors’s Kang the Conqueror who is set to become the next major MCU villain after Thanos, the movie received a critical rating of only 47% from Rotten Tomatoes.
Apart from Ant-Man 3, The Flash starring Ezra Miller turned out to be one of the biggest bombs of box office lightweight. While the movie was made at a budget of $200 million with roughly $100 million more for marketing, it only made a box office collection of $139 million globally with a debut of $55 million. Despite its low earnings, the movie was able to make more than Elemental which only collected $29.5 million in its debut.
Apart from these other movies like Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Little Mermaid, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and many more have underperformed in comparison to the MCU standards. While most of these movies were considered commercial successes considering their budgets, they have not lived up to the standards of critics, fans, and most importantly the Disney Studio.
Deadpool 3: A Ray of Hope to Overcome MCU Mistakes
While the plague of box office disappointment continues for both Disney and MCU, reports have been around the upcoming movie Deadpool 3 starring Ryan Reynolds will turn the tables around. With the return of Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, this movie is said to bring in some good news for the MCU next year.
This speculation has been around as the movie is set to break the ongoing trend of VFX in the Marvel Universe. One of the biggest mistakes of Disney, as well as its franchises, is the high and unnecessary use of VFX and special effects in all of its big-budget movies. Many films like Doctor Strange 2, Thor Love and Thunder, and Ant-Man 3 were criticized by both fans and critics for high reliance on VFX which impacted the emotional stakes of fans’ engagement.
However, the highly anticipated Deadpool 3 is said to break this pattern of work as the movie is being filmed in real-life locations rather than in the studio. Talking about this with the EW Shawn Levy reported that both he and Ryan Reynolds “wanted our movie to be grounded and not feel like a bunch of physical environments filmed on a soundstage.” This was one of the main reasons why the photo of Wolverine was leaked. Further talking about this Levy said, “Fortunately it seems global reaction to those costumes has been overwhelmingly positive, so all’s well that ends well.”
As the movie is set to release on 3rd May 2024, fans are excited to see how the idea of Ryan Reynolds and Shaw Levy of keeping Deadpool 3 grounded will turn out.
