Steven Yeun’s departure from the highly anticipated Thunderbolts has displeased the fans as they witness the Marvel Cinematic Universe falling apart. The film franchise has been facing immense backlash over its recent projects, and the criticism intensified after The Marvels was released.
Last year was undeniably a roller coaster for the entertainment industry, as some found their massive box office hits, while others witnessed the biggest disappointment in history. Among them is the Marvel Cinematic Universe which has been engaging fans for decades but the recent update on Steven Yeun abandoning the role of Sentry in Thunderbolts has generated dissatisfaction among the enthusiasts.
Steven Yeun Will No Longer Play Sentry in Marvel’s Thunderbolts: Fans Disappointed
Last year it was reported that Beef actor Steven Yeun has secured the role of Marvel Cinematic Universe’s one of the most powerful characters Sentry. The anticipation for this tragic figure in the superior world was extremely high as Sentry isn’t just a typical superhero, but has a complex and dual nature. Robert Reynolds takes his mantle and transforms into Sentry, who has the power of a million exploding suns.

Would rather him not get bogged down with what has been the worst stretch of comic book films, anyway.

Since the Invincible star won’t be debuting in the MCU as Sentry, fans have been speculating the actual reason behind his departure. The enthusiasts doubt that Yeun has been fired because his friend and director Robert Kirkman hinted at his involvement in Thunderbolts during an appearance on David Finch’s YouTube show. However, according to reports, the reason behind The Walking Dead star’s exit is due to scheduling conflicts.
Steven Yeun Would Have Played Sentry Flawlessly
Steven Yeun would have slayed the role of Sentry, considering that he’s a rising star who has landed many notable and beloved projects on-screen. The actor’s Beef of Netflix rose to No. 2 on Netflix’s Top 10 list of English-language shows, earning him a fanbase.
Marvel’s Sentry is a complex and dual nature character who has a dark side too, and Yeun has already played an angry and annoyed Danny Cho in Beef, which makes him perfect for the role. The actor can delve into distinctive roles and leave lasting impressions. The superhero film franchise had a chance to capitalize on the emerging stardom of Steven Yeun, and it would have profited both, the actor and the makers.
Sentry is one of the most complex and challenging figures in Marvel, and Yeun would have slayed the role by portraying all traits of the character, which involve anger, confusion, and formidable powers. And since Marvel is active in hiring young actors for the Universe, Steven Yeun was a perfect choice.
Thunderbolts will hit theatres in July 2025.
