Marvel Star Wyatt Russell Can’t Follow in His Legendary Father Kurt Russell’s Footsteps Over 1 Thing in His Career
American actor Wyatt Russell is quite well known for his extended family in the entertainment industry. The actor has been a significant part of movies like The Falcon And The Winter Soldier, Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters, Black Mirror, and Night Swim. He collaborated with his father Kurt Russell in the sci-fi adventure drama Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters. Wyatt Russell would be seen playing the younger version of his father’s character Army Officer Lee Shaw.

The father-son duo appeared in a special segment on Apple TV, where Wyatt Russell revealed he doesn’t like to watch himself in his movies and shows which is totally opposite in comparison to his father.
Wyatt Russell Doesn’t Like Watching Himself Onscreen
Wyatt Russell belongs to a family of talented actors. From Bride Wars star Kate Hudson to versatile actor Kurt Russell- the Marvel actor can easily brag about being surrounded by talented stars. Wyatt Russell played the younger version of Army officer Lee Shaw and the older version was played by his father Kurt Russell in Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters.
While talking about the behind-the-scenes of Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters during a special segment by Apple TV on Youtube in December 2023, the actor duo spoke about their experience of collaborating with each other for a single character in Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters. Wyatt Russell claimed that he is one of those actors who dislikes watching himself in his projects. The former Ice-Hockey player said-
“I’ve now become the type of actor who doesn’t like watching himself.” The Guardians Of The Galaxy actor chipped in “Yesterday, I caught the last 20 minutes or so of The Thing.” Wyatt asked- “So you love watching yourself ?” To which the veteran star replied “Oh, I love it. Oh, but you knew that. Can’t get enough!”
The father and son duo are playing the same character, but in different time zones. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2023, Wyatt Russell was asked about whether the duo had any debate about the character of Army officer Lee Shaw. He said-
“There was definitely no debate. If there would’ve been debate, I don’t think we would’ve continued doing it. Before we signed on to do it, we really wanted to make sure that this was something that we both wanted to do, separately. And you have to remember that this was a casting idea; it wasn’t written with us in mind. [Casting director] Ronna Kress came to us with this amazing idea, and we were like, “That is an amazing idea. So let’s make the actual execution of the idea as good as it can be.”
He further explained-
“As we started down that path, we set a very, very high bar for ourselves, individually, and together, the bar felt like it was set even higher. We were very much in agreement on who this character should be, and we collaborated with [co-creators] Chris Black and Matt Fraction, who were great. We had to make the character into something that utilized our strengths, and we put a lot of work into it. So we’re happy with the way it turned out.”
Undoubtedly, Wyatt Russell is a great actor just like Kurt Russell but when it comes to watching himself onscreen, the actor cannot follow his legendary father’s footsteps.
Wyatt Russell On What It’s Like Seeing His Father As A Grandfather To His Kids
During the promotion of Monarch: Legacy Of Monsters, both Kurt Russell and Wyatt Russell appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers. While talking about his father, the 37-year-old actor even mentioned what it’s like to see his father become a granddad to his kids. He said-
“He’s awesome, ’cause he can do all of the hard sort of lessons that sometimes I don’t want to have to do. But luckily he doesn’t hide any of who he is to who my son is. So there was, like — we were going on a street when I was living in Vancouver shooting Monarch, and Buddy wants to test going on the street, and my dad goes, “No, no, no!”

Wyatt Russell is currently expecting his second child with his wife Meredith Hagner, further shared-
“He was crying, and I’m like, ‘Well, I don’t know. It’s a good lesson. [He] comes back, I’m like, ‘What does Gogi say?’ And Buddy goes, ‘No, no, no,’ and points at the street. And I was like, ‘Yes! You got it. Thanks, Pop!'”
Wyatt and Meredith started dating each other in 2015 and four years into their relationship, the couple tied a knot in 2019. They even share a son named Buddy Prine Russell in 2021.
