Marvel Talking to Actor Being Fan-cast For Kang Replacement Could Make Jonathan Majors’ MCU Return Impossible
- Jonathan Majors' role as Kang was dropped after his legal controversies, while insiders hint at Marvel already casting a new actor.
- Potential talks with Colman Domingo, a fan-favorite fancast for Kang, reduce the chances of Majors' return.
- The unresolved Kang arc might still find closure through alternate storylines like Nathaniel Richards in Young Avengers.
As the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now building up the storyline of the superheroes for the final clash against the big bad Doctor Doom, there was a time when it was supposed to happen against Kang the Conqueror.
However, situations turned upside down after Jonathan Majors’ legal troubles began, and Marvel had to bring back beloved Robert Downey Jr. and give him a villainous twist. Now, some recent updates seem to spark talks about Kang once again.
Fans Cast New Actor for Kang
Jonathan Majors was set up as the main villain for the multiversal saga of the MCU in Loki, where he appeared as a Kang variant, He Who Remains. He then appeared in Ant-Man 3 and teased the Council of Kang. His last appearance was in Loki season 2, where he revisited his role and also played his variant, Victor Timely.
However, all these seem to hold little to no consequence as Majors was dropped from Marvel in 2023 following his case of assault and harassment against his ex-girlfriend Grace Jabbari.
However, according to NPR, Jabbari finally dismissed the lawsuit in November 2024, and this again reignited some discussions about Marvel rehiring Majors as Kang. However, it doesn’t seem like happening anytime soon.
According to Screen Geek (via ScreenTime), Marvel is talking with Colman Domingo for an undisclosed role. Domingo said,
I have had a meeting with Marvel, yes. But it wasn’t specifically about anything. They literally sat down and said, “What do you want to do?” And I said, “I don’t know. What do you got for me?” … Who would not want to be a part of the MCU? I just would want it to be right. And something that is created for me and something where I feel like I can give something of myself to.
Domingo who is going to voice Norman Osborn in Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man has been speculated to be a contender for Kang for the past few months, and netizens have again made him a popular fancast for the role.

The popularity of Domingo as Kang is not very great news for Majors, as it reduces the already scarce chances of his return. Moreover, according to insider Daniel Richtman (via The Express Tribune), Marvel has already found their next new Kang, which further eclipses Majors return possibility.
Will Kang Appear Again in the MCU?
After building up that level of hype and showing up that much, it seems unsatisfactory to leave Kang’s arc without a proper conclusion. Fans know Kang still exists in the MCU, and he is a multiversal threat, but it will look absurd if suddenly nobody is going to talk about him in the MCU.
However, it is also true that he can’t be brought back with the same story arc as he was initially planned. But there are other ways in which Jonathan Majors or probably some other actor might return to reprise Kang’s role.
One possibility is following the storyline of Nathaniel Richards and Young Avengers. In comics, Richards is a variant of Kang who later chooses to become a hero instead of a villain and goes by the name of Iron Lad, even though adult Kang tries to make Richards like him by showing his future.
This might be a possibility for an adult Kang to return to the MCU and try to become a mentor of Richards. Moreover, it is already evident by now that Marvel is introducing characters of Young Avengers like Billy Maximoff and Riri Williams and also teasing a team-up by showing Kamala Khan recruiting Kate Bishop in the post-credit scene of The Marvels.
