Matthew Perry’s Batman Obsession Might Have Had a Deeper Significance Than Fans Thought
Matthew Perry started his acting career as a child actor with a small role in the American drama 240-Robert. Before rising to fame with the role of Chandler Bing in the NBC sitcom Friends, which was aired from 1994 to 2004, he starred in many movies and shows such as his debut film A Night in the Life of Jimmy Reardon and the 1990 CBS sitcom Sydney.
Matthew Perry’s death on October 28 came as a shock to millions of people around the world. He entertained the world for years with his antics as Chandler Bing in Friends. The character has immortalized the actor, who gave his everything to make the show worth watching again and again. Fans have recently concluded that some of his last Instagram posts were a cry for help.
Matthew Perry’s Last Few Instagram Posts Were Cryptic
Nearly two weeks before his demise, Matthew Perry started making some posts Batman-related on his Instagram handle. Some of his posts even featured the bat signal. The bat signal is used as a distress signal to summon the superhero in the Batman universe which has led fans to believe that the actor was asking for help.
The West Wing actor made his first Batman-related post eleven days before his death. In the video, a camera pans on three flat screens, each showing the logo of 2022’s The Batman movie, around what appears to be a bedroom. The ceiling of this room also had a silhouette of the Batman signal.
The last of these Instagram posts, however, was the most disturbing of all. A picture of the actor with headphones on, relaxing in one corner of the pool with the city and a half-moon behind him, was his last post. The caption read: “Oh, so warm water swirling around makes you feel good? I’m Mattman.”
Perry made several other posts that were somehow or the other related to Batman, including the picture of a pumpkin with a Batman-shaped logo, which was most probably for Halloween. Now, all these posts could have been merely because he was in his Batman phase, but fans think it might have been more than that.
Matthew Perry Did Not Want To Be Remembered For Friends
Perry did not want to be remembered for Chandler Bing, In an interview on Q with Tom Power podcast in 2022 while promoting his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, he said:
“The best thing about me, bar none, is that if an alcoholic or drug addict comes up to me and says, ‘Will you help me?’ I can say yes and follow up and do it. When I die, I don’t want Friends to be the first thing that’s mentioned. I want that to be the first thing that’s mentioned, and I’m going to live the rest of my life proving that.”
When actors pass away, they are remembered for the roles that they were most famous for. In the same way, Matthew Perry will probably always be remembered for portraying Chandler Bing in Friends. However, fans can try to respect the late actor’s wishes.
