Hemsworth recently appeared in a post-apocalyptic action-adventure movie, Fusriosa: A Mad Max Saga. The movie is said to be the fifth installment in the Mad Max franchise and serves as the prequel and a spin-off of 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. In a recent interview, the actor opened up about his thoughts while heading a billion-dollar project.
Chris Hemsworth reveals his thoughts while filming Extraction
Australian actor Chris Hemsworth has portrayed the role of Tyler Rake, a former Australian SASR operator turned black-ops mercenary in Extraction. Directed by Sam Hargrave from a screenplay written by Joe Russo, the movie follows the Black Ops mercenary who has taken on a mission to save the Indian drug lord’s son in Bangladesh.
The movie is an adaptation of the Russo brother’s 2014 graphic novel of the same name. Extraction was released on Netflix in 2020, opened to mixed reviews, and became the most-watched original movie in the streaming service’s history, recording over 99 million viewers in its first four weeks. A sequel was later released in 2023 and received positive responses from critics and the audience.
Chris Hemsworth, who is currently promoting his latest movie, Fusriosa: A Mad Max Saga, appeared on Hot Ones. During the conversation, he was asked about his thoughts while filming projects like Extraction or Limitless and was asked about examples of things that he contractually agreed not to do when heading a billion-dollar movie franchise.
The actor explained that there is always a contract that is signed with the studios that states some of the dos and don’ts for him. He added that he has had a few moments where he has been doing those things and that his actions could cost him and the studio a lot of money if he gets injured.
When I was shooting Extraction, I was down in the south of France surfing some pretty big waves and a couple of times, kind of underwater, you know, being rolled on by sort of big 15-foot surf and thinking, maybe I shouldn’t be here right now. This could hold the production for the entirety of it because I’ll be dead.
The success of two movies has allowed the makers to go for a third part, too, as in 2023’s Netflix’s Tudum Festival (via IGN), it was announced that Extraction 3 is in development. Hemsworth is set to reprise his character.
Chris Hemsworth talks about being a part of Fusriosa: A Mad Max Saga
In his recent interview with Variety, the Australian actor shares his experience working with filmmaker George Miller in Fusriosa: A Mad Max Saga, which also stars Anya Taylor-Joy. He said,
There weren’t many films where you would hear a prominent Australian accent, so it felt very familiar. It felt like something that was ours as Australians, as opposed to latching onto American films or British cinema.
Chris Hemsworth stated that he heard someone say that British cinema has Harry Potter, American cinema has Star Wars, and Australian cinema has Mad Max. He added that the statement is true, and there’s a great deal of pride and appreciation he has for what George has built. He plays Warlord Dementus and enjoys the opportunity to be a bad guy. Hemsworth noted,
As sick and twisted as the character is, I enjoyed it a lot. I don’t know what that says about me. It was a script that allowed me the opportunity to do something I’d never done before with an individual who had such depth and knowledge about the world.
The Marvel actor shared that Miller was open to his interpretation of the character and welcomed the collaboration, noting that he has humility. He concluded by stating that despite all the noise and chaos in the set, there was a strange calm to it because of Miller, who was aware of everyone’s safety and needs.
