MCU Has No Interest in Eternals 2, Captain Marvel 3, and Ant-Man 4: Latest MCU Rumors Will Upset You
Marvel Cinematic Universe is the leading superhero franchise in Hollywood. The billion-dollar franchise came into existence in 2008 with Iron Man, and since then, it has expanded into various superhero installments and standalone projects. However, for the past few years, prominent MCU projects have failed to make an impact at the box office.
Reportedly, due to the poor performance of their previous installments both critically and commercially, MCU has no interest in going ahead with Eternals 2, Captain Marvel 3, and Ant-Man 4.
MCU Halts The Development Of Eternals 2, Captain Marvel 3, and Ant-Man 4?
Eternals went on to introduce prominent names, including Kit Harrington, Angelina Jolie, and Richard Madden to the MCU. The movie saw a good opening but failed to create a mark at the box office. Chloé Zhao’s Cosmic Saga was the first MCU movie to be rated Rotten on Rotten Tomatoes. Eternals went on to secure only $402.1 million against a production budget of $236.2 million. Similarly, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania grossed $476.1 million against a production budget of $275 million, making it one of the biggest disappointments from the MCU in 2023.
According to a recent update by a reliable source on X, MCU is focussing on Bob Iger’s policy of quality over quantity. Reportedly, the superhero production house is not interested in the production of Eternals 2, Captain Marvel 3, and Ant-Man. The post on X mentioned-
‘ETERNALS 2’ is reportedly on hold at Marvel Studios. Kevin Feige reportedly wants it to be made, but Bob Iger thinks it’s a guaranteed flop.
During an interview with The Wrap, Walt Disney CEO Bob Iger clearly spoke about his quality over-quantity approach for MCU projects. He said-
“In our zeal to greatly increase volume partially tied to this warning to chase more global subs for our streaming platform, some of our studios lost a little focus. So the first step that we’ve taken is that we’ve reduced volume, we reduced output, particularly in Marvel.”
For the past few years, the box office failure of Marvel projects has created a stir in Hollywood. In 2023, apart from Spider-Man: Across The Spiderverse, none of the MCU movies could make an impact at the box office.
Chloé Zhao Breaks Her Silence On Being Criticized For Eternals
During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2023, Academy Award-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao indirectly provided an important update about the second installment of Eternals. The Nomadland director was present for Johnnie Walker’s red carpet event for the 16th Annual Women In Film Oscar Party. On being asked if she is interested in pursuing the second chapter of Eternals, the Chinese-born filmmaker did not go ahead with elaborating her response, instead, she said-
“No comment.”
While talking about being criticized for Eternals, Zhao spoke about the pros and cons of directing a Marvel project. The 41-year-old-director said-
“When you’re in Marvel and when you’re dealing with an audience that big, I truly treasure and respect that each of us is so unique. It’s exciting that we’re all so different, and we’re all changing and growing every day. But with a global audience, it’s almost impossible to make everybody perfectly happy, and to do that is to say that everyone is the same.”
In between the conversation, Chloé Zhao even pointed out that as a filmmaker, one has to be true to their work, and everything else is out of their control. She said-
“So I think there’s inevitably going to be that [difference of opinion], and you just have to stay true to the kind of film you want to make and who you are and the people you’re collaborating with. That’s all you can do, really, and have a good time. Everything else is out of your control.”
With an IMDb rating of 6.3 out of 10, Eternals can be streamed on
