SUMMARY
  • A recent update suggests that 'Ms. Marvel' Season 2 may not be released until after the end of the Multiverse Saga.
  • Similar to Mahershala Ali's 'Blade', which has faced multiple delays, 'Ms. Marvel''s future is uncertain.
  • 'Ms. Marvel' Season 1 and 'The Marvels' have left some unanswered questions that make Season 2 a necessity.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is at a crucial stage right now. With every project now having a multiversal connection, it gets more challenging to manage the schedule. Marvel has already rescheduled its projects after the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent writers’ strike.

Amid these delays, one major project that has been long announced is the Blade reboot. Mahershala Ali was announced as the new Daywalker in 2019, and since then, the movie has only faced reworks and delays. Moreover, a recent update on Ms. Marvel‘s upcoming season hints that it might also follow the fate of Blade.

Ms. Marvel Season 2 Might Be Released After Multiverse Saga

Ms. Marvel was released in 2022. Although it was not as hugely popular as Loki or WandaVision, it gained decent views, and Iman Vellani‘s performance was also loved by many. Now, after her last appearance in a much-failed movie, The Marvels, fans wonder what the future holds for the teenage superhero.

Season 1 head writer Bisha K. Ali told The Hollywood Reporter that the show was delayed because she couldn’t find how to connect it with The Marvels as she had no idea about the film at the time. Now it looks like Season 2 will also face a much larger delay.

In a recent Q&A session with insider Alex Perez (via The Cosmic Circus), some fans asked about the status of Ms. Marvel Season 2, as it has been long under consideration. Perez replied, “It may happen down the line, but not until after the Multiverse Saga ends.”

If this happens, then the teenage superhero will no longer look like a teenager. Vellani is 22 years old currently, and Avengers: Secret Wars will be released in 2027. So, by the time MCU’s multiverse saga ends, she will be in her late 20s.

This is a similar problem to Mahershala Ali‘s Blade. Ali was announced as the new Blade at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con International. At the time, he was 45 years old, and according to Perez, MCU might push Blade after the Multiverse Saga, which means Ali will be 53 by the time Secret Wars releases.

That’s just 1 year less than when Robert Downey Jr. bid goodbye to his Iron Man character. According to The Cosmic Circus, Perez said that Marvel wants to keep the supernatural side of the MCU after the end of multiverse saga. Since both Blade and Ms. Marvel are more inclined to the supernatural side, it might be possible they show up after Secret Wars.

Why Is Ms. Marvel Season 2 Necessary?

According to The Guardian, Disney CEO Bob Iger told Wall Street analysts that he wants the studio “to reduce output and focus more on quality.” This also becomes one more reason why Ms. Marvel Season 2 might not be there anytime soon, as it is not a priority currently.

However, despite having a teenage show tone, the first season introduced some new concepts in MCU, which also left many questions to be answered by the time it ended.

The biggest mystery still lies with Kamala Khan’s mystical bangles. Their origin and source of power and how they can manipulate time and reality are not yet answered. Besides that, Khan’s Inhuman genetics are also not explained yet.

Ms. Marvel has been accepted the most by the audience among all the young faces including America Chavez, Kate Bishop’s Hawkeye, and Riri Williams’ Ironheart. So, she can be a good character to begin the story of the New Avengers or Young Avengers.

At the end of The Marvels, it is shown that Khan has gone to recruit Kate Bishop for her new team, which could be the foundation of the new Avengers. However, judging by Marvel’s tightly packed schedule until Secret Wars, it looks difficult for all these to happen anytime soon.

Ms. Marvel and The Marvels are available to stream on Disney+.

Avengers: Secret Wars will be released in theaters on May 7, 2027.
