Kit Harington is known for his portrayal of fan favorite character Jon Snow from HBO’s fantasy show Game of Thrones. The actor has portrayed the character right from the inception of the show in 2011 till the very last episode, which premiered in 2019. He was highly lauded for his performance as Jon Snow, which according to the New York Times is one of the finest created characters, by author George R.R. Martin.

In the series, Kit Harington’s Jon Snow’s storylines follow the character’s arc from the novel series written by George R.R. Martin. But his storyline from seasons six to eight has been known to continue from the author’s latest published installment. The actor was emotional while saying goodbye to his character and he even cried at the airport.

Kit Harington’s emotional goodbye to Jon Snow from Game of Thrones

Actor Kit Harington who has portrayed Jon Snow on HBO’s Game of Thrones from 2011 to 2019 was very attached to his character. The actor was emotional while bidding goodbye to his fan-favorite character from the show and it took a toll on his mental health.

In behind-the-scenes footage released in The Last Watch documentary, Harington is seen giving an emotional speech after filming his final scene on the show. He said,

“I feel like my heart is breaking. I love this show more than, I think, anything. It has never been a job for me. It’s been my life, and this will always be the greatest thing I’ll ever do and be a part of, and you have been my family. I love you for it, and thank you so much.”

The actor during the final table read was also seen getting emotional. Especially as he reached a part where his character was the one to kill his on-screen lover and another fan-favorite character, Daenerys Targaryen, played by Emilia Clarke.

At his appearance on The Jess Cagle Show, Kit Harington revealed that he experienced some mental health challenges after the show ended. He said via A.V Club,

“I went through some mental health difficulties after Thrones, and during the end of Thrones, to be honest, I think it was directly to do with the nature of the show and what I had been doing for years.”

Kit Harington, however, admits to Jon Snow being a very heavy and damaged person adding that it’s nice to not have him with him for a bit.

Kit Harington teared up at the airport at the mention of Jon Snow

On his appearance on The Graham Norton Show, back in 2019, Kit Harington was asked how does he feel about the show coming to an end. To which he said,

“Maybe you’ve had this where people come up to you in the street and they say, ‘Are you Jon Snow?’ And you are like not technically I’m not Jon Snow. No, but let’s go with it. I’m Jon, but I kind of waited. “

“I really had waited to say the words ‘not anymore’ like in a really stoic kind of, cool way like the first person I go ‘not anymore’. But what really happened was I left set and I was very emotional and this poor girl came up to the airport and went ‘Are you Jon Snow?’, and I went, ‘Not Anymore’.”

Kit Harington revealed that when the girl came up to him and asked him that question, he was already emotional to say goodbye to Jon Snow so it kind of made him cry a little. He also revealed that he had revealed the show’s ending to one of his friends who did not care about it. Harington said he shared with his friend who did not watch the show because the ending was intense and he needed someone to talk to about it.
