Emilia Clarke rose to fame with the fantasy drama Game Of Thrones. The actor played the role of Daenerys Targaryen in the widely watched hit HBO series. House Of The Dragon is the prequel to the David Benioff and D.B. Weiss -created fantasy drama that aired from 2011 to 2019. The show is based on the book Fire And Blood authored by the famous American novelist George R.R. Martin.

It appears like Emilia Clarke is simply not interested to watch the prequel of her most famous work Game Of Thrones. The popularity of House Of The Dragon led almost 10 million people to tune into the first episode of the series on August 21, 2022. The series’ viewership skyrocketed and even went on to secure the Best Television Series (Drama) award at the Golden Globe Awards 2023.

Emilia Clarke Can Never Bring Herself To Watch House Of The Dragon

Not everyone is interested to watch the much-hyped series that documents the list of events that led to the downfall of House Targaryen and the war that led to the Dance of Dragons. Daenerys Targaryen, one of the most pivotal characters from the Game Of Thrones, played by actor Emilia Clarke, has admitted that she has not watched a single episode of House Of The Dragon as of now.

During an interview with the reputed media house Variety with Matt Donnelly at the Variety Studio, Emilia Clarke was present to promote the world premiere of her movie The Pod Generation. The actor spoke about the award-winning hit series House Of The Dragon and how she is uninterested to watch it. The Me Before You actor revealed-  “No! Can you [forgive me]?” She said on being asked about watching House of the Dragon.

The actor further added-

“It’s too weird. I’m so happy it’s happening. I’m over the moon about all the awards… I just can’t do it. It’s so weird. It’s so strange. It’s kind of like someone saying, ‘You want to go to this school reunion that’s not your year? Want to go to that school reunion?’ That’s how it feels. I’m avoiding it.”

According to Emilia Clarke, it is next to impossible for her to sit through the strange yet familiar universe. The Secret Invasion actor finds the concept quite weird and simply abstains from watching House Of The Dragon. She gave a shout-out to Miguel Sapochnik, the co-showrunner of season 1 of House Of The Dragon, who has worked with Emilia Clarke on Game Of Thrones. She said-

“Love him. Brilliant. Wonderful. I just can’t do it. It’s so weird. It’s so strange. It’s kind of like someone saying, ‘You want to go to this school reunion that’s not your year? You want to go to that school reunion?’ That’s kind of how it feels. I’m avoiding it.”

Actor Emilia Clarke was nominated four times at the Emmy Awards for playing the role of Daenerys Targaryen on the Game Of Thrones. 

Emilia Clarke On Not Being A Part Of Jon Snow’s Game of Thrones Spin-off

The portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen is something that will always live in the hearts of Game of Thrones fans forever. The news of the actor not being a part of Kit Harington’s Jon Snow spin-off has already devastated many around the world. The sequel revolves around the titular character Jon Snow. During the Game Of Thrones convention in December, Kit Harington dropped a clue about the spin-off but chose not to address it directly.

During an interview with Extra, Emilia Clarke was asked if she would like to reprise her role in the sequel Snow, the actor replied- “I don’t think so. Kit, I love you! I’m going to watch that one because of you, or I am gonna tell you I did.”

“He’s gotta go back up to the place with all this history and live out his life thinking about how he killed Dany. And live out his life thinking about Ygritte dying in his arms. And live out his life thinking about how he hung Olly, and live out his life thinking about all of this trauma.”

George R.R. Martin confirmed the news of Kit Harington’s Jon Snow spin-off in June 2022. According to the speculations around the release date of Snow, it is set to release in 2025.
