This time the Sister Act star has spoken about Greta Gerwig’s multi-dollar project Barbie. The Margot Robbie-led movie was snubbed by the 96th Academy Awards. After being nominated in various categories for the Golden Globes and Critic’s Choice Awards, Barbie could only secure a single spot in the nominations in the supporting actor category.
During a recent episode of The View Whoopi Goldberg spoke about Barbie and pointed out that not everybody gets a prize after the fantasy drama could secure only a single nominations.
Whoopi Goldberg Addresses Greta Gerwig’s Oscar Snub With Respect To Barbie
When Margot Robbie’s Barbie dominated the box office in 2023 and left behind Christopher Nolan’s biographical saga Oppenheimer, the world already knew that this competition was going a long way. After the Golden Globes, Critic’s Choice Awards, and the 96th Academy Awards nomination are already announced, everyone is shocked as Greta Gerwig’s Barbie has been snubbed by the prestigious award organization. During a recent episode of The View, Whoopi Goldberg spoke in support of Barbie. She said-
“I know the film, I know the greatness and the money, but that assumes someone else shouldn’t be in there because you have five people [nominated], everyone below the five is a snub of sorts. There’s always going to be the snub category of greats.”
Goldberg further added-
“There are no snubs, and that’s what you have to keep in mind: Not everybody gets a prize. … The movies you love may not be loved by the people who are voting.”
Whoopi Goldberg was awarded an Oscar in the Best Supporting Actor category for her performance in Ghost.
Ryan Gosling Believes There Can Be No Ken Without Barbie After The Oscar Snub
After the recent Oscar nominations, Ryan Gosling issued a public statement addressing Barbie. The actor has been the talk of the town after winning the Critic’s Choice Award under the best song category for I’m Just Ken. According to the reputed media outlet The Hollywood Reporter, the actor’s statement mentioned-
“I am extremely honored to be nominated by my colleagues alongside such remarkable artists in a year of so many great films. And I never thought I’d be saying this, but I’m also incredibly honored and proud that it’s for portraying a plastic doll named Ken.”
The actor further shared-
“But there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie without Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, the two people most responsible for this history-making, globally celebrated film. No recognition would be possible for anyone in the film without their talent, grit, and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.”
The actor expressed his disappointment for Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie missing out on nominations for Oscars. The La La Land was nominated for Best Supporting Actor along with his co-star America Ferrera.
