According to reports, the screen tests for the superhero have begun in Atlanta, with House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock and Zombies star Meg Donnelly as the leading candidates for Supergirl.

However, two names among whom James Gunn might choose one are Milly Alcock and Meg Donnelly.

According to THR, Alcock, who’s best known for the role of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in the Game of Thrones spin-off series, and Donnelly who has been a part of the Zombies franchise are the two strong contenders for debuting as the key character of DCU. As a significant character in the rebooted Universe of James Gunn and Peter Safran, Supergirl might play a supporting role in Superman: Legacy which will allow her story to begin.

After Superman: Legacy, Supergirl Will Lead Her Standalone Movie

As reported by the outlet, after debuting from Gunn’s Superman: Legacy starring some of the most talented actors from the industry, the actress who will secure the role of Supergirl will lead the standalone movie titled Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. The upcoming film will likely follow its comic roots for a more resonant story of Superman’s cousin. Kara Zor-El debuted through  Action Comics #252, which tells her story of never wanting to transform into a superhero, but eventually becoming one.

As announced by James Gunn through his Instagram Threads, Ana Nogueira has worked on the film’s script and currently, there has been no confirmation about the director. But since Gunn has already excited the fans about Supergirl’s arrival, the project will likely have the best director it requires.

Superman: Legacy will come out on July 11, 2025.
