Ryan Gosling, our beloved Ken, is making headline after headline whether it is for his reaction after I’m Just Ken won the Best Song at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards or expressing his strong opinion about Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie getting snubbed for the 2024 Oscars.

Ryan Gosling playing the role of Ken took the entire world by storm. He might be just Ken, but it cannot be denied that this Ken has won the hearts of millions of people worldwide with a few exceptions. The mere announcement of him taking over the role and then the release of the first look was enough to create buzz around the character.

Rolling Stone critics, however, begged to disagree, and things are not exactly looking up for them considering Gosling has now got an Oscar nomination.

Even so, his appearance as Ken in Barbie is truly a new feat as the movie has not only crossed the $1 billion mark but is also the most popular movie on Letterboxd surpassing Parasite. Recently, the Oscar nominees for this year were announced and Gosling has been unsurprisingly nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

Eva Mendes, Ken’s (read: Ryan Gosling) real-life Barbierecently posted on Instagram calling out a Rolling Stone article that heavily criticized Gosling for taking the role of Ken. Mendes has never been one to hold back her praises for her husband. Her giving a throwback to the article stands as a testimony of her annoyance at Gosling being dragged based on a single look.

It has been established that the Blade Runner 2049 star did an immaculate job of portraying Ken. However, Greta Gerwig’s masterful filmmaking and Margot Robbie’s spectacular performance as the titular Mattel doll in Barbie cannot be overlooked.

It is a heartwarming and proud moment for fans that Ryan Gosling also acknowledges these women for their contribution to the movie instead of just enjoying the nomination he has received. In a statement that he gave to CNN, Gosling said:

“No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I’m disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement.”

The Notebook star strongly stressed the point that it would have not been possible for his nomination or any other nominations to happen if it wasn’t for Gerwig and Robbie so they deserved to be nominated. He also congratulated America Ferrera on her Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress.

Although Margot Robbie and Great Gerwig have not received individual Oscar nominations, they have received nominations. Gerwig was recognized in the adapted screenplay category alongside her Barbie co-writer (and husband) Noah Baumbach, and Robbie was nominated as a producer with the film’s best picture nomination, alongside three others.
