Not Ms Marvel or Spider-Man, MCU May be Lacking its Most Significant Addition Yet Despite Introducing a Boatload of Characters
The MCU has been clearly struggling to keep up with its past success in its post-Avengers days. Marvel’s new phases have been nowhere near replicating the success of the Avengers franchise. From Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania to The Marvels, the MCU is delivering one epic flop after the other.
For a decade, it seemed like the MCU had cracked the code of comic book movies. Despite filmmakers like Martin Scorsese calling Marvel movies “theme parks,” they were extremely successful and had a loyal and strong fanbase. However, Marvel Phase 4 and Phase 5 have been scattered, to say the least. Now, with Marvel’s Avengers: Secret Wars ready to take the stage in phase 7, ending the multiverse saga, it is important that the MCU recognize that it is lacking a quite important addition despite adding a bunch of characters.
MCU is still lacking in a central storyline or protagonists
Back in the day, the MCU had established its main protagonists with Iron Man and the subsequent Avengers movie that came along. The original team was established on screen within a matter of five movies, and the plot cohesively and faithfully followed these characters, giving the audience time to connect with the superheroes. This is the reason why, when Avengers: Infinity War was unveiled, it was the biggest success Marvel ever had since they had taken the time to make the fans invested.

However, in the Multiverse Saga of the MCU, Marvel had overreaching ambitions and started introducing a bunch of characters alongside a convoluted storyline that lacked a central plot point. They did not even establish a clear team the audience should root for in the post-Avengers era.

Marvel, in Phase 7, must introduce the main plotline and central characters right off the bat to establish a storyline early on that will be easy to follow. Although the MCU multiverse saga has its own charms, it has a very complicated storyline that seems scattered everywhere. One can hope that the MCU’s most significant aspect, which is its coherence, will be back after the audience being confused between Ms. Marvel, Spider-Man, or Ant-Man.
Mark Ruffalo reveals he wants to have a standalone Hulk movie in the MCU
Mark Ruffalo won many hearts as the Hulk in the Avengers franchise. While speaking to ComicBook.com the actor opened up about his role and how he has been toying with the idea of a standalone movie for a while.
“I think it could be really cool and I’ve been putting a lot into what it could be to be cool, but I don’t know yet.”
Although he added that he has been asked not to comment on the matter by Disney, he still remains hopeful that it will materialize one day. During Promotions for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law in 2022, Ruffalo told a reporter of Entertainment Tonight that he was very open to the idea of starring in a World War adaptation of Hulk. He said:
“Any time they [Marvel] want to do it, I’m here.”
He also teased the return of the Berserker Hulk, saying that five years from now, the Hulk might morph into anything.
Avengers: Secret Wars is slated to come out in 2027.
