Much like the news of O.J. Simpson being arrested for the murder of his wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend shook the country, the news of his death at the age of 76 was received with similar shock. The NFL star-turned-actor died after an illness, which was confirmed in February after similar rumors were circulating far and wide.

Called the ‘Trial of the Century,’ Simpson’s case was followed by the entire nation as they waited with bated breath to know the final outcome. Ultimately, he was found innocent of the charges despite the prosecution having evidence of hair and DNA on the scene of the crime.

Marguerite Whitley was O.J. Simpson’s first wife, whom he married in 1967. They had a decent relationship and parented three children named Arnelle, Jason, and Aaren. Their romance began in their teenage and went on to mature as they aged. The couple first met in California when they were in high school. Despite the divorce and the following legal battle, Whitley believed Simpson was innocent during the 1995 trial.

According to US Weekly, the couple’s third daughter, Aaren, reportedly drowned on the eve of her second birthday and died. Losing a child at such a young age to such a tragic accident may also have contributed to a strain on the relationship between Whitley and Simpson.

Simpson met his second wife while he was still married to Whitley. Nicole Brown Simpson was just 17 years old and working as a waitress when the two first got acquainted. Eventually, after the athlete divorced Whitley in 1979, he married Brown in 1985. Simpson and Brown had two kids together, Justin and Sydney.

Though it has never been proven, allegations and rumors suggest that both of Simpson’s marriages had cases of domestic violence and abuse. He has denied any such accusations even though he settled the cases outside of court. Nicole Brown even alleged that Simpson had threatened to kill her. The couple divorced in 1992 while Brown and her friend Ronald Goldman were found dead in 1994, outside her LA home.
