A phenomenal run of films in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise brought in billions of dollars for Disney. Fans have been left waiting impatiently for a new movie as the franchise hasn’t brought any for half a decade. Many are unsure about the franchise’s future due to the lack of a sequel or the long-rumored all-female relaunch.

Johnny Depp, who played the iconic role of Captain Jack Sparrow, rose to fame and instantly became a household name. The actor dedicated 14 years to the franchise. However, the aftermath of his trial led to the Edward Scissorhands actor losing his place in the franchise. Following the trial, Disney ended its association with the actor. Depp felt betrayed as the studio decided to continue the franchise without his participation, and he stated he would not continue to work with the movie franchise.

However, producer Jerry Bruckheimer has mentioned the idea of a subsequent movie in the franchise, igniting discussion of the 60-year-old’s return as Captain Jack Sparrow. A source close to the actor confirmed that Depp hasn’t ruled out reprising his role in the franchise.

The source said, “Anything is possible. If it’s the right project, he’ll do it.”

The New York Times in June stated Disney appeared to be slowly opening the door to working with Depp once more. As Johnny Depp is eager to work with Disney and it appears that fans may get to see their favorite character Captain Jack Sparrow return to the big screen.

The 60 years made an appearance at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival to promote his first film, Jeanne du Barry, post-trial. The film got a seven-minute standing ovation. 

Jeanne du Barry is the story of a young woman who uses her intelligence and s*xuality to advance in her social circle. Johnny Depp plays King Louis XV, the king that she has her eyes set on. 

The Pirates of the Caribbean movies are available to stream on Disney+.
