Honestly, it is not fair to make movies based on books. The reason is that they end up cutting off the vital characters from the book due to less screen time. So it is a better option to make popular TV shows based on the books right?
And many times shows have done this successfully and honestly they have done a great job. Of course, there have been many popular shows based on books that we already know about like The Vampire Diaries or Pretty Little Liars. But did you know these popular TV Shows were also inspired by books?

Through the show, the audience met Dexter Morgan; a man who has homicidal tendencies and lives a dual life. During the day, he works as a forensic technician for the police department but in his free time, he kills the bad guys! So that makes it easier for the fans to cheer for a serial killer right?
The show interestingly is inspired by Darkly Dreaming Dexter by Jeff Lindsay. When the book was picked up by Showtime to make it into the series, Jeff had only published the first two books. It later ended up into an eight-book series about Dexter!
