Reacher Season 2 has reached new heights in terms of audience viewership as Deadline reported that this season’s viewership has gone above Season 1’s viewership by 50% in the first three days. One can only imagine what it will be like when the entire season is out. As of now, the show is the No. 1 title of the year for Prime Video based on the viewership of all the shows and movies released on the streamer.

That being said, this is a feat that the show might not have been able to reach if Tom Cruise were to play the lead character. This would be because, with Alan Ritchson’s portrayal of Reacher, the show classifies into the subgenre of dad shows, which would not be possible with Cruise who is more inclined to make projects targeted for a different demographic.

Reacher is the most-watched original series on Prime Video (via The Hollywood Reporter). This huge success of the series brings us to the question of what is it about Reacher that attracts so many viewers. Thankfully, Alan Ritchson has an answer for it.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Ritchson explained his take on why everyone likes Reacher so much, saying:

“We wish our judicial systems and law enforcement were less clumsy and maybe even [not] unethical at times. In Reacher, you have the embodiment of that wish being fulfilled in a single person who’s capable of doing something for us. And that’s exciting for us to think that, maybe somewhere out there someday, we’ll see justice done before we pass.”

The Smallville star’s reasoning is absolutely valid. People get a break from their disappointment in their judicial system by watching Reacher do all that an individual from an ideal juridical system would do.

The first three episodes of Reacher Season 2 are available for streaming on Prime Video.
