Rumored Jacob Elordi Show Featuring Erotic Gay S*x Scenes Faces Major Setback as Timothée Chalamet’s Oscar-nominated Director Bows Out
The Hollywood rumor mill seems to have some good news for Jacob Elordi fans as he might be gearing up to star in another big project. The past few years have seen the actor rise to the higher ranks in the industry with projects like the hit HBO series Euphoria, the biographical movie Priscilla, and the black comedy psychological thriller Saltburn.
This new project that Elordi might end up becoming a part of is a show that will be adapted from the Bret Easton Ellis novel The Shards. While this is good news, there is a slight hiccup in the project’s development as Luca Guadagnino, the director previously attached to it, has walked away and HBO has appointed a different director for it.
The Shards Has a New Director with Jacob Elordi Rumored to Star
Within months of The Shards‘ release, Deadline reported that HBO was developing a drama series based on the book with Ellis writing the screenplay and executive producing alongside Nick Hall and Brian Young. The novel is a fictionalized version of the author’s own experiences in high school in 1981 in Los Angeles and features graphic descriptions of the violence and homos*xual as well as heteros*xual intercourse.
During an interview with El Independiente in June 2023, the author revealed that Luca Guadagnino would be directing the series, although it was not known if he would be directing all the episodes. Fast forward to this year, Oscar-nominated filmmaker Guadagnino, who is widely known for directing the Timothée Chalamet-starrer Call Me By Your Name, is no longer attached to the project (via World of Reel). HBO has officially appointed Kristoffer Borgli (Sick of Myself, Dream Scenario) to work on the series.
World of Reel has also reported that Jacob Elordi is rumored to appear in the series. However, it has to be taken with a grain of salt since there has been no official announcement regarding this. The series will reportedly have three seasons of 10 episodes each and there will be subplots that are not in the novel.
The Shards is Bret Easton Ellis’ First Novel in 13 Years
Bret Easton Ellis is a popular American author and screenwriter. He gained recognition with his first novel Less Than Zero. Despite its controversial nature, the novel was adapted into a movie of the eponymous name starring Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role.
Six years later, his third novel American Psycho hit the market and it is his most successful work to date. It was also adapted into a movie with Christian Bale in the role of the lead character Patrick Bateman. The film was a critical and commercial success and has a cult following as one of the best psychological thrillers.
Over the years, Ellis has written screenplays for movies like The Canyons and The Curse of the Downers Grave. Last year, the release of the novel The Shards marked the end of a 13-year-long drought of literary fiction work by the author.
