Recently, it has promoted from National League to League Two after a huge win and the actor is super proud of this achievement. Sharing the big news with his millions of fans, the Deadpool movie star took to Instagram and posted a series of pictures along with a caption,
“Everything I own smells like champagne, beer, and grass. I’m still somewhere between giggling and sobbing. This town and this sport are one of the most romantic things on earth. Thank you, @wrexham_afc.”
It’s a big thing for the actor since his wife was reportedly not pleased with his decision to buy the soccer team. The Bullet Train star made this luxurious purchase and released a joint statement with McElhenneym in 2021. The statement read,
“It is a special day for the two of us to become the latest stewards in the long and storied history of Wrexham AFC. Together with the players, the staff, the fans, and the local community, we can now pursue our goal to grow the team and return it to the EFL in front of increased attendance, and in an improved stadium, while making a positive difference to the wider community in Wrexham.”
Ryan Reynolds and his friend Rob McElhenneym bought Wrexham Association Football Club, a small soccer team in north Wales in 2021. Since the actors purchased this team, they have been documenting its successes and failures in the exclusive Disney+ series Welcome to Wrexham. It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia star claimed the town and club intrigued him because it reminded him of blue-collar Philadelphia, where he was born and brought-up.

Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney Reveal Details of Their Purchase
In a previous interview, Ryan Reynolds claimed that his friend Rob McElhenney is the best business partner he ever had. The actor has been married to Hollywood actress Blake Lively since 2012. The couple is proud parents to their four kids. Both Lively and Reynolds are successful in their careers, and together the couple owns many luxurious properties. According to reports, the Red Notice star’s current net worth is estimated to be around $350 million whereas his wife’s is around $40 million. Reynolds has earned this massive income with his acting work and brand sponsorships.

In a candid interview, Ryan Reynolds revealed that he bought his soccer team Wrexham with Rob McElhenney without consulting with his wife, Blake Lively. He said,
“I kind of slid into your DMs. As I’m getting older, I’m thinking, I’ve gotta tell people when I appreciate them more. I remember after you reached out about this absolutely insane idea. I remember seeing Blake and saying, I have bad news and I have really bad news. The bad news is I slipped into someone’s DM again. The really bad news is that I might have bought half of a fifth-tier national football league in Wales.”
According to multiple reports, Reynolds and his business partner McElhenney reportedly paid around $2.5 million for the non-league club. In a previous interview, both the actors opened up about their decision of buying the soccer team and how difficult it was for them to be a part of it.
The Proposal movie star said,
“I would say that going into anything like this, where you’re in sort of uncharted territory — at least for us — it’s just about transparency. We’re not here to project some idea that we know what we’re doing in terms of running a football club. We are here to say that we’re gonna be responsible, respectful, and reverent of the institution that is Wrexham and that we’re going to do everything we can to grow this and build this like we would any other business, or film or television show or anything like that.”
Ryan Reynolds continued,
“Most businesses that I’ve been involved with, at least the ones that succeed or work usually have a backbone of accountability and relationships. That’s not too dissimilar to what’s happening in Wrexham. We just went in very honestly and said look, your average five-year-old in Wrexham has forgotten more about football than we will ever know.”
He added,
“But we are going to do our best to make sure that the success of the club is commensurate to the success of the community, and vice versa. So a lot of it was kind of finding that multi-pronged approach because the community and the club are so linked that you really can’t tear them apart and you really can’t grow one without growing the other.”
