Sandra Bullock Nearly Lost $723M Oscar Nominated Movie to Angelina Jolie and Scarlett Johansson Before Director Wanted Someone Older to Play the Role
Sandra Bullock is one of the most famous and established actresses in the world right now. The American actress recently made headlines after she announced that she is taking a break from acting. It’s not like her career was going slow or anything, the actress was just tired. Bullock even revealed in an interview that she is very burnt out and tired. The actress further revealed that she just wants to stay at home and be with her children for the time being.

One of the biggest movies of Sandra Bullock’s career was the movie Gravity which was released in 2013. However, she was not the first choice to play the role of Dr. Ryan Stone. According to sources, the character was originally written for Angelina Jolie and was later offered to Scarlett Johansson.
Sandra Bullock was not the first choice for Gravity
Gravity turned out to be one of the biggest movies of Sandra Bullock‘s career. The Speed actress also received an Oscar Award nomination for her role in the movie. Although she wasn’t the first choice for the movie, Gravity is the highest-grossing movie of Bullock’s career to date. The movie made almost $723 million worldwide.
According to sources, the character of Dr. Ryan Stone was originally written for Angelina Jolie. When she turned down the role, the role was still not offered to Bullock immediately. The role was allegedly offered to Scarlett Johansson and Blake Lively first but they needed an older actress to play the role. At one point, Alfonso Cuarón, the director of the movie gave the part to Natalie Portman even without the screen test. When Portman turned down the role, Sandra Bullock was finally approached for the role.

According to sources, even Bullock was surprised when was offered the role of Dr. Ryan Stone. The actress once revealed a weird reason for not wanting to do the role in Gravity. Bullock said, “I don’t like to fly. I’ve never been a good flyer“. The actress further talked about how she hurt her friends in the process of flying. She said, “I have a lot of friends that have permanent nail marks in their arms… The moaning that comes from me when there is turbulence. It’s awkward for everyone around.”

Although Bullock was not the first choice for the character of Dr. Ryan Stone, she still nailed the role in the movie. Gravity is currently streaming on Apple TV.
