Scarlett Johansson’s Husband Colin Jost Denies Pete Davidson’s Claims After Buying Staten Island Ferry Together
A decommissioned ferry is one of Colin Jost and comedian and former Saturday Night Live co-star Pete Davidson’s interesting investments. Jost is now addressing Davidson’s claims that they were “very stoned” when they made the purchase, however.
Jost and Davidson were planning to convert the ferry into a live entertainment event space, according to the couple’s real estate broker, Paul Italia, who also said that they had great ideas about what to do with the ferry boat.
Colin Jost clarifies he was ‘sober’ while making the purchase
During a recent conversation with Entertainment Tonight at the premiere of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts in New York, Pete Davidson shared that they have no idea what is going on with the decommissioned Staten Island Ferry Boat. Davidson added, “Me and Colin were very stoned a year ago and bought a ferry. And we’re figuring it out.”
Now, Scarlett Johansson’s husband and Saturday Night Live’s head writer Colin Jost has clarified that Davidson’s claim that they were ‘stoned’ when they made the purchase is not true as he was ‘very much sober’ while making the deal. He took to his social media to share a headline citing the Afroman defense of ‘because I got high’ and wrote in the caption, “Is it worse that I was actually stone-cold sober when we bought the ferry?”
Jost further wrote, “We’re excited to prove the non-believers wrong. You’re going to be BEGGING to get on this ferry in two years. Mark my words.” Jost also mentioned, “I’m going on a Ferry Money Tour this week and next week. Stand-up in Houston, San Antonio, Austin, Minneapolis, Madison, and Chicago with some very special guests. Come on by.” He also shared a graphic for the fictitious tour, adding, “I do my own graphic design. If you want me to take your brand to new heights, I can get you millions.”
Colin Jost and Pete Davidson cracked up on SNL while announcing the purchase
The comedian and the Weekend Update anchor on Saturday Night Live announced back in January 2022 that they had purchased a Staten Island Ferry. They said on the show, “Yes, we bought the boat and we have a general idea of our dream of what we want to do.” They called the ferry the “windowless van of the sea”. Davidson and Jost are among a group of investors who won an auction and purchased the retired ferryboat for $280,100.
Paul Italia, the duo’s real estate broker, revealed that, although nothing was certain, they were thinking about turning the ferry into a place for arts and entertainment. Italia said, “The reality is that everyone who came together on this has a sincere motive to see the right thing happen, to restore a piece of New York.”
He claimed that as Staten Island natives, Davidson and Jost were drawn to the John F. Kennedy ferry because it had a special place in their hearts. When it was retired in August, the Kennedy, which had been in service since 1965, was by far the oldest vessel in the city’s fleet, according to Vincent Barone, a spokesman for the Department of Transportation.
Pete Davidson expressed his high hopes for Staten Island Ferry
Back in February, Davidson spoke to People when he said that they had high hopes for the purchase, adding, “There is going to be a bar, there is going to be a nice restaurant and… the lower level, the big space is going to be an entertainment space and we’re going to dock it in the city.”
The comedian added that maybe it could go down the drain and he’ll be doing lots and lots of gigs next year. He recently provided his voice for the heroic Autobot Mirage in Transformers: Rise of the Beasts and said that everything seems surreal, adding that he is just so excited and grateful to everyone who has been a part of it.
