Ariana Grande has been one of the best female pop musicians for over a decade now. She began her career in the entertainment industry as an actress in 2008, but her ultimate goal was to be a musician and her first album Yours Truly was released in 2013.

Known for her impressive vocal range and signature whistle-tone register, Grande has won accolades like Grammys and American Music Awards. When she announced her new album Eternal Sunshine in January, fans were enthralled with the prospect of what else awaited them.

However, that hope has now turned into disappointment as the songstress has announced a temporary break from music. She stated that this is so she can focus on her movie Wicked, but it might not mean well for her musical career.

Eternal Sunshine is Ariana Grande‘s first album in four years since the last one she released was Positions, released in October 2020 when the world was still in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The last time she went on a tour was in 2019 to support her albums Sweetener and Thank U, Next.

The release of the new album gave the fans hope that she might finally go on a tour in support of this album as well as the one before this. Both Positions and Eternal Sunshine produced hit singles like 34+35, Yes, And, and The Boy is Mine.

However, Grande recently took to her Instagram Stories to announce her hiatus from music for as long as she is working with Wicked. She wrote (via Pop Base on X):

I love you all so much. I have decided to put a temporary pin in all things that are not Wicked for now. I’m deeply grateful for your patience and mostly, so, inexplicably excited for all that is to come. See you soon.

Her reasoning seems understandable, but some fans have also taken it upon themselves to read between the lines and concluded that it might be the negativity she has had to face in recent months.

Considering the long break she took between her last two albums and how much time has passed since her last tour, her career as a musician may take a hit while her contemporaries like Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Dua Lipa are constantly working to keep the bar high. Goes without saying that Wicked will certainly benefit from this move.

Not so long ago before her hiatus announcement, during her appearance on Evan Ross Katz’s podcast Shut Up Evan, Grande expressed her desire to do a “mini-tour” in between the release of the two Wicked films. The first film is scheduled to be released in November 2024, and the second one will follow in March 2025.

However, before she could announce anything regarding the mini tour, X account Buzz Pop reported that a joke started by fans about the 7 Rings singer being a cannibal went viral on TikTok in an attempt to stop other fans from buying tickets.

While Grande did not personally address that claim, her half-brother Frankie Grande took to his X account to reshare the Buzz Pop post and stated that the allegations were false and that the singer is vegan.

Apparently, the damage was already done by the trend as the songstress does not seem to be interested in doing anything apart from her movies anymore. However, she is not the only one to do so, considering female musicians like Selena Gomez and Rihanna have also not released new albums in a while.
