Queen Elizabeth liked Meghan Markle
Despite so many reports claiming that the royal family did not like Meghan Markle, reportedly because of her ancestry, skin color, and for being American by birth, author Gyles Brandreth has revealed in the upcoming biography, Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait, that Queen Elizabeth actually liked Meghan Markle.
As per the author, the Queen was just worried that her grandson, Prince Harry, was “over-in-love” with Markle adding that this was her only concern and this “was as far as she went – at least as far as I know – in uttering a word against the new Duchess of Sussex.”
The Queen was delighted to know that Prince Harry is marrying Meghan Markle
The author further noted that Queen Elizabeth “was genuinely delighted when she learned that her grandson was to marry Markle.” She reportedly “liked Meghan and told many people so. And she went out of her way to make her future granddaughter-in-law feel welcome.”
It was further mentioned that she was not upset because of the bombshell interview Prince Harry and Meghan Markle gave on Oprah Winfrey’s show,
“She liked her so much that she wasn’t even put off by the Sussexes’ infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey. I can say, because I know, that the Queen was always more concerned about Harry’s well-being than ‘this TV nonsense.’“
Queen Elizabeth did not meet her husband Prince Philip for weeks
The book has also revealed that Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip hit a rough patch in 2017 when the Duke of Edinburgh retired. The two only stayed in touch through phone calls and avoided each other for weeks. The two got married in 1947. However, they grew closer again during the pandemic. Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh died on 9th April 2021.
Queen Elizabeth II died on 8th September 2022. Author Gyles Brandreth has also noted in the book that he believes the Queen had a form of myeloma, bone marrow cancer. He wrote,
“I had heard that the Queen had a form of myeloma – bone marrow cancer – which would explain her tiredness and weight loss and those mobility problems we were often told about during the last year or so of her life.”
Queen Elizabeth’s four children, along with other royal family members, traveled to Balmoral Castle in Scotland on September 8th, 2022 after her health started deteriorating. Shortly after, Buckingham Palace announced in an official statement that Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96.
