“She’s so real for this”: Aubrey Plaza’s Honest Reasoning for Joining ‘Agatha All Along’ Proves She Feels No Need to Appease the Marvel Bosses Whatsoever
- Aubrey Plaza gained a lot of recognition for her role in the NBC political satire Parks and Recreation.
- In a new interview, Plaza has clearly stated that she wanted to work with Kathryn Hahn.
- Plaza's answer was the same even two years when it came to her reasons for starring in the spin-off show.
Aubrey Plaza has been in Hollywood for almost two decades now, but it is only this year that she is making her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, her reasons for joining the franchise are largely different from some other celebrities.
There have been numerous instances when actors have joined a franchise solely for the kind of exposure it gives them. This does not seem to be the case for Plaza who has been perfectly happy playing the roles she has gotten so far. In a recent interview, she revealed what convinced her to become a part of this multi-billion franchise.
Aubrey Plaza on Why She Agreed to Star in MCU’s Agatha All Along
Aubrey Plaza made her film debut with the comedy Mystery Team in 2009. During the filming of the movie Funny People in Los Angeles, its casting director offered Plaza to do other meetings and took her to meet with the creators of the show Parks and Recreation. She pitched her own perspective on a character she was being offered and got the role.
Plaza’s portrayal of April Ludgate in the political satire TV sitcom achieved her parise and recognition. In fact, her character is considered one of the breakout ones which also includes another Marvel star Chris Pratt, who played the role of Andy Dwyer in the show.
In 2022, the actress’ fame saw new heights with her performance in HBO’s anthology series, The White Lotus. Fast forward to this year, she is going to grace the screen as witch Rio Vidal in the WandaVision spin-off series Agatha All Along, primarily based on the character Agatha Harkness.
In a recent interview with The Wall Street Journal, Plaza revealed she chose to join the ensemble cast of the miniseries because she wanted to work with Kathryn Hahn, who plays Agatha in the show.
It felt like a manifestation of a lot of things for me. Witchiness, dark arts… What better than playing in the witchy world of witches?
Fans are quite impressed with this honesty of hers as they praised her for it on X.
Playing a witch sure does sound like an exciting prospect for an actress whose range is as vast as Plaza. That said, fans are eagerly waiting for this show to be released for quite some time now.
This is Not the First Time Aubrey Plaza Has Claimed Kathryn Hahn to Be the Reason Behind Her Joining Agatha All Along
Plaza has never been the kind of person who tries to sugarcoat their words to appease fans or anyone else for that matter. She has stood by her claim of joining the show to work with Hahn since 2022.
During her appearance at the In the Envelope: The Actor’s Podcast, she discussed her upcoming projects and also her desire to work with Hahn.
I think working with Kathryn Hahn, she’s a friend of mine. I’ve known her for years, we’ve never really got—you know, we shared a couple moments on screen on Parks and Recreation years ago, ten years ago, but I’ve never gotten to work with her, really, and she’s I think she’s one of the most incredible actresses that’s working today. She’s a friend of mine, she speaks my language.
So, the one aim that the actress had had in her mind since day one was that she wanted to work with her longtime friend. Getting to star in a franchise as big as the MCU is obviously a plus but not a priority for her since all she seems to care about is the fact that she is going to work alongside her friend.
Agatha All Along is scheduled for premiere on Disney+ on September 18, 2024.
