There was a time when the actor almost rejected the role and it could have been given to someone else.

Chris Evans recently revealed that he didn’t want to do the role of  Captain America in the Marvel world. Evans initially rejected the role of his iconic hero for which the actor is best known. Captain America gave The Gray Man star an incredible fanbase and rose him to stardom which Evans might not have imagined. In an interview, the actor revealed his initial thoughts about the Marvel Cinematic Universe and why he wanted to reject it. Chris Evans told GQ that:

“I was really apprehensive about taking the role initially, I remember in my late 20s having a real shift in how I felt on set, how I felt promoting films: a little more anxiety, a little more uncertainty. You always end up questioning, Is this what I should be doing? I just wasn’t sure if I was moving closer to myself or further away. And something inside me kept saying that I was getting further away—that something about this industry wasn’t healthy.”

Evans disclosed that he was quite anxious when offered the role of Captain America, the actor opened up about his changing emotions and thoughts in his late twenties especially when the actor used to promote films. Evans was uncertain whether the choices he made aligned with his aspirations and values. The Not Another Teen Movie star revealed he had intuitions that his involvement in the entertainment industry was leading him away from a better and healthier path. Chris Evans explained that the pressure and uncertainties of the movie world weren’t approving The Iceman star to play the high-profile role of Captain America.

Chris Evans in the same interview with GQ talked about his positive perspective on Quentin Tarantino‘s last year’s most controversial comments that many Marvel actors didn’t like. The Inglourious Basterds director was the latest high-profile Hollywood director to criticize Marvel movies in 2022 and spoke about the actors involved in MCU. The director stated that the actors aren’t the real heroes but the characters are. This was enough to create controversy and it went viral all over the movie world. Almost a year later Chris Evans in the GQ interview said:

“Quentin Tarantino said that recently and I was like, you know, he’s right. The character is the star. You’re there, but you don’t feel a big weight.”

Chris Evans agreed that when an actor is involved in a movie, they don’t have to feel the pressure of being the sole focus of the movie because the only focus is on the character being played and this is what helps an actor to resist pressure while filming a movie, especially when its Marvel’s project where fans keep an eagle eye on their favorite icons. However, Evans won’t be playing his iconic character now as he has finally retired from the role and is focusing on his personal life more. The Ghosted star recently married a Portuguese actress Alba Baptista in an intimate ceremony in which his Marvel co-stars such as Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Jeremy Renner graced their presence.
