Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse ‘Sunflower’ Singer Post Malone Buys Magic the Gathering Card That Costs 1.3X More Than a $2M Bugatti Veyron
Post Malone has often proved himself to be an athirst Magic: The Gathering player. He has made headlines for trading cards for a lump sum of money. But with a recent card purchase, the Sunflower singer has outdone himself and possibly every MTG player out there.
Wizards of the Coast: Studio that owns MTG released an entirely unique card earlier this year in their The Lord of the Rings-themed Magic: The Gathering – Tales of Middle-Earth set. The card is one of its kind and invaluable to the MTG players’ community. The card costs a lot and is now in the possession of Post Malone, who paid around $2.2 million to have it.
Post Malone Spends A Fortune To Own the Exclusive Magic: The Gathering Card
The Wizards of the Coast released a JRR Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings-themed card set earlier this year. There was a one-of-a-kind card that was unique to the entire collection. The One Ring is exclusive in more than one way. Not only is it one in the collection but it alludes to Sauron’s ring in Tolkien’s Middle-Earth saga, which was the most powerful weapon of all.
When one anonymous player found The One Ring card which was placed in one of the many Magic: The Gathering – Tales of Middle-Earth booster packs, in June, the search for the card halted. The player soon revealed himself to be Brook Trafton, thirty-six years old retail worker from Whitby, Ontario. Trafton was offered some good deals for the card but he eventually sold it to Post Malone.
Trafton posted a TikTok (@brooktrafton) showing him handing the singer the rare card, which was captioned as follows:
When I found the One Ring, the first person who came to mind was @Post Malone. I have played MTG since I was a kid and obviously, it would be amazing to keep this card. But for a guy like me, being able to sell it is life-changing. I just really hoped it would go to someone who would appreciate it as much as I do. This is my dream come true, meeting Post Malone and him buying the One Ring card from me is literally a moment straight out of a fairytale. Post Malone @Magic: The Gathering you have changed my life. Things like this don’t happen to people like me, I guess it’s magic. I am forever grateful.
This exchange was heartfelt for all the players who grew up playing and adoring Magic: The Gathering.
Post Malone: A Die-Hard MTG Player
Prior to this expensive exchange, Post Malone made headlines for a previous MTG card deal he did. He paid $800,000 for a Black Lotus which was an artist print and signed by Chris Rush. The latest deal has made him the owner of the two most expensive Magic: The Gathering cards ever sold. He also hosted an infamous MTG gathering in which he competed against a public opponent for $100,000.
The possibility of Post Malone owning The One Ring was discussed in MTG player spaces as early as the card’s initial release. It could be said that if Malone is not the most passionate MTG card trader, he is certainly the richest.
