Step Aside Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep Hails Billie Eilish as Hollywood’s Savior With Barbie: “You should surf that wave, kids”
Barbie was one of the biggest blockbusters of 2023, surpassing even Christopher Nolan’s magnum opus, Oppenheimer. It is a fantasy comedy film by Greta Gerwig, led by Margot Robbie as the title character and Ryan Gosling as Ken. It became a pop-culture phenomenon, garnered positive reviews, and grossed $1.44 billion worldwide, setting up multiple records.
It became the highest-grossing film of 2023 and the 14th highest-grossing film of all time. So far, it has been nominated for twelve Grammy Awards and nine Golden Globe Awards.

Recently, at the Palm Springs Film Awards, industry veteran Meryl Streep made a rare public appearance and had nothing but praise for the film.
“You’ve saved the movies last summer and all of our jobs” Meryl Streep sings praises of Barbie at the Palm Spring Film Festival
Meryl Streep is a seasoned industry professional with a career spanning over four decades. With her stupendous talent, she has managed to acquire a record 21 Academy Award nominations, winning three, and a record 33 Golden Globe Award nominations, winning eight. A nod of approval coming from such a person would floor anyone. This is probably what happened to Billie Eilish and Finneas as they were receiving an award for their Barbie song, What Was I Made For?

Taking some time to appreciate them and the movie, Streep said a few words before presenting the award. She touted Barbie for saving the industry and thousands of jobs. She also emotionally said how the movie delivered joy to “countless generations and genders of people” (via. The Hollywood Reporter).
“I just want to say to Billie and Finneas that you have delivered the Barbie love bomb. You’ve saved the movies last summer and all of our jobs. You’ve delivered joy to countless generations and genders of people, and you should surf that wave kids, until you’re old and deserve to be jaded like me.”

She then turned her attention to Carey Mulligan and her remarkable performance in Bradley Cooper’s Maestro. However, her words of validation and encouragement meant a lot to fans across the globe.
Is Ryan Gosling going to sing I’m Just Ken from Barbie at the Oscars?
Ryan Gosling was upfront about whether he would bring the Kenergy to the Oscars or not in a recent interview. Many were predicting that Gosling’s I’m Just Ken would get a nod of approval from the Oscars in the Best Original Song category since it already proved itself at the Grammys and the Golden Globes.

However, fans might be disappointed to hear what Gosling said to W Magazine. He opened up, saying he hadn’t gotten his invitation to perform at the academy as of now.
“Well, I haven’t been invited. And I wasn’t thinking about it until now, and now it’s all I’m going to think about. Do you get paid to sing at the Oscars? Do you have to drive yourself? What kind of scratch is involved? They pick you up at least, right?”

This would not be the first time he would be invited to perform at the Oscars if he got the invitation. In 2017, he was invited to perform City of Stars from La La Land, which he delegated to his co-star John Legend. City of Stars won the Best Original Song Award that night.
Barbie will be streaming on Max (formerly HBO Max), since Warner Bros., the film’s distributor, owns the streaming platform.
