There have been notable teases from the cast members of Supernatural that a revival show is on the way, but the current update doesn’t seem to align with what Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki teased. The actors shared their desires to reprise their roles as Sam and Dean Winchester, but there has been no official discussion about a new series.

Disappointing Update Regarding Supernatural Revival Series

Ask a Supernatural fan, and they will perfectly describe how engaging the long-running dark fantasy-horror series has been. Starring acclaimed actors Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as the Winchester brothers, the series flawlessly blends horror and drama. Since the WB-turned-CW series ended with season 15 in 2020, fans have been waiting for the comeback of Supernatural gang, but let us tell you that it’s not happening anytime soon.

CW’s president of entertainment, Brad Schwartz explained that currently there have been no official discussions about a potential Supernatural show while acknowledging the franchise’s legacy. Schwartz  said (via TVLine):

“We’ve had no discussions about any kind of spinoff. Supernatural was one of the Top 10 most-streamed shows last year. And it’s an incredible franchise with an incredible legacy, incredible history.”

Despite the insane popularity of Supernatural, its prequel series The Winchesters only survived for one season. Starring Meg Donnelly and Drake Rodger as Sam and Dean’s parents, the series was supposed to have another season, but since it couldn’t work, the makers put an end to it.

And now if you’re waiting for Ackles and Padalecki’s return to hunt the monsters, ghosts, and other horrifying supernatural entities, then this is absolutely the wrong time!

According to Jensen Ackles’ vision for the Supernatural revival show, it could be a dark R-rated or TV-MA at the very least. And Guess what? the actor also mentioned that this should be inspired by True Detective– an HBO hit series. While explaining his tough pitch in an interview with TV Guide (shared on X), the actor and musician said:

“I have this lofty dream of when, after things have settled, we’ll tackle one more case as Sam and Dean. I’ve got a few ideas. [Maybe] a nice 10-episode short-order for HBO Max, I’m just saying. Like a whole True Detective meets Supernatural. It’s right there.”

However, now that we know that there is no plan for a revival show, we are unsure of the time when we can see the titular actors back as brothers and hunting down the supernatural entities. But what we know is Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki won’t mind coming back as they previously teased that there are more upcoming adventures.

Supernatural is available on Netflix.
