Now the director himself has come forward with his thoughts on directing the movie and his relationship with the Marvel studios. Taika Waititi revealed that he’s in an “open relationship” with the studios after all the backlash he was blessed with for making Thor 4 and is all set to collaborate with new makers and directors in the future for other projects.

Taika Waititi who’s one of the most lauded directors in the world of entertainment, especially for bending humor in the storylines of his movies recently shared that he won’t be focusing on directing Thor 5 but on other projects. The New Zealand-born filmmaker expressed his thoughts about his relationship with Marvel and explained in an interview with Business Insider that he’d be happy if the studios find other talented directors for Thor 5. He said:

“I would never feel like they are cheating on me. We’re in an open relationship, and it’s like if they want to see other people, I’m happy for that. I’d still get back into bed with them one day.”

Unlike Thor: Ragnarok, the fourth installment in the franchise was promptly criticized on release for several observed flaws, even receiving the second-lowest audience score in the whole MCU and being crafted by Taika Waititi gave critics another big reason to disapprove of Chris Hemsworth‘s movie.

Despite not directing the fifth installment in the franchise, Waititi has clarified being on good terms with Marvel and he has blessed them to choose another creative and talented director for the project that would lead Thor 5 towards success after his last installment was claimed to be too childish.

Taika Waititi Plans To Focus on Other Big Projects

Now that Taika Waititi has finally moved on from Thor 5, fans can expect a new director with an even more thrilling and engaging storyline in Hemsworth’s movie, Waititi has mentioned focusing on other projects for the next 6-7 years. He added: “I’m going to concentrate on these other films that I’ve signed on for.” referring to his upcoming movie Next Goal Wins.

The filmmaker also shed light on his upcoming and untitled Star Wars movie which is the adaptation of Alejandro Jodorowsky’s graphic novel The Incal. The Thor: Ragnarok maker said: “It’s still marinating. I’ve been writing it”. Explaining that he already has the work to craft in two of the novel’s adaptations, the other being for the novel by Kazuo Ishiguro. Waiti said:

“So that’s six, seven years gone, I’d imagine another ‘Thor’ would be a lot sooner than that…But I love Marvel, I love working with them. I love Chris.”

So, Taika Waititi is indeed occupied with a lot of writing and crafting for his adaptations which would have barely given him time to create a new and engaging storyline for Thor 5. However, Waititi’s upcoming sports comedy, The Next Goal Wins is almost here and set to release on Friday, November 17.
