“That kind of trust is very rare”: Sandra Bullock Re-establishes Keanu Reeves’ Nicest Guy in Hollywood Status After Revealing Her ‘Speed’ Experience
Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are two of the most iconic actors in Hollywood, and they might have given each other a hand in achieving that when they worked together in 1994’s Speed. The action thriller served as the breakthrough for both actors because it was not just the action that kept people hooked, it was also the palpable electric energy between the lead actors that kept the audience on their toes.
It is no secret that Reeves is one of the most adored co-stars in Hollywood, as anyone who has worked with him has nothing but good things to say of him. The Lost City actress is no exception. In fact, she did not refrain from singing Reeves’ praises even in a recent interview.
Sandra Bullock Appreciated Keanu Reeves While Recounting Her Experience of Working on Speed
Sandra Bullock played a supporting role in the 1993 action film Demolition Man, which starred big names like Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes. Her career was just beginning to gain momentum. So, when she was offered the role of Annie Porter in Speed, she did not waste any time accepting it even though she knew she was not the first choice. She seemed to have made the right choice if the movie’s success was anything to go by.
Keanu Reeves was also far from the first choice for portraying Officer Jack Traven. However, both actors were certainly the right choice for their respective movie roles as the chemistry between them was visible to everyone since their audition sessions (via 50 MPH).
Both actors recently came together for an interview with 50 MPH to discuss different aspects of the movie. Speaking of her experience working with the John Wick star, Bullock said:
“I felt very comfortable with Keanu. There was nothing that I couldn’t try or do or say that he wouldn’t have, I felt, fought for me to do or say or try, and that kind of trust is very rare with actors. Anytime I threw something his way, he swatted it right back and you just go, ‘OK, there’s my partner.'”
What Jack and Annie shared on the screen was far from the usual romance seen in movies, they had to make it work on the go. They did, and it is all thanks to the actors’ impeccable performances.
The Former Co-stars Want to Share the Screen One More Time
Speed was not just a box office hit with a worldwide gross of $283 million on a $30 million production budget (via The Numbers), it was also nominated for two Academy Awards. Everyone wanted a sequel, but it was not what some might have expected because while Bullock still had a lead role, Reeves was nowhere in sight.
Speed 2: Cruise Control was a huge box office failure (via The Numbers) and went down in the books as one of the worst sequels ever. That might have tainted the movie’s legacy, but it could not harm The Blind Side actress’ friendship with Reeves.
In the interview with 50 MPH, both actors expressed their interest in working together again. Bullock said:
“Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera. Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers? Maybe. Are we on little scooters at Disneyland?”
Reeves agreed, saying:
“I would love to work with you again before our eyes close.”
Their sentiments for each other prove that there might still be hope for Jack and Annie, and the Speed franchise after all.
Speed is available for streaming on Starz.
