“That Seems Harmless Enough”: Embarrassing Incident Forced Liam Neeson to Quit Going to Church Confessions After Priest Screamed at Him
Liam Neeson, the iconic actor known for his portrayal of Bryan Mills in the Taken series, is eagerly anticipating his upcoming thriller movie. 71-year-old Liam Neeson was born in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, and interestingly, he was named after a local priest.
Reflecting on his early childhood and formative years in Northern Ireland, Liam Neeson confessed that he had abandoned the practice of attending church confessions over 60 years ago. This decision stemmed from an unfortunate experience of getting masturbation-shamed by a noisy priest, which left a lasting impact on him.
Liam Neeson’s humiliating experience at the church confessional
The subject of self-pleasure and masturbation had been culturally very underspoken. The Taken actor confessed in a recent interview with the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast how was he humiliated for being honest.
15-year-old Liam Neeson confessed to a holy priest at the church confessional that he had found his way to pleasure himself at home while emphasizing the exact word masturb*tion and said it was harmless to say that.
To this, the holy priest went frenzy and yelled at him to stop the evil practice. He shouted so loud that even the people praying outside could hear the conversation.
He explained: “So we start (confession when I was 15), and I had learned how to pleasure myself at home, onto the sheets, right?
“I had looked up the appropriate word: ‘Masturbate?’ ‘Masturb*tion?’ OK: ‘That seems harmless enough, I’ll say that.’
“‘You what?!’ (the priest screamed.) This guy I mean, he almost said things like, ‘The grass will grow over the palm of your hand before you’re 21! Stop that evil practice!’ He’s shouting this!”
He added: “That was the last time I ever went.”
This incident made Liam Neeson never go back to a church confessional.
Liam Neeson’s confession on his love life
Following his role in Taken, Liam Neeson is set to captivate audiences once again with an upcoming thriller titled Retribution. The film boasts a storyline that pushes the boundaries of plausibility, featuring thriller sequences with high-speed cars and explosive moments.
While Neeson has earned iconic status, he has maintained a sense of introversion when it comes to his personal life, particularly after the tragic loss of his wife, actress Natasha Richardson, in a skiing accident.
However, a recent revelation has unveiled a different facet of his life. During the filming of Blacklight, he unexpectedly opened up about his feelings towards a woman, indicating a fondness for her even though she was already committed to someone else.
He said on the Australian show Sunrise:
“I loved Melbourne, I loved our Australian crew.
“Every department was superb but they were their people, do you know what I mean?
“They had a great sense of humour. I made a couple of pals and fell in love once while I was there, but she was taken.”
Neeson has chosen to keep the woman’s identity a mystery, leaving speculation about whether she was a fellow cast member or not. Nevertheless, the spotlight is currently trained on him due to the release of his latest film, Retribution, now gracing theatres.
