“That’s one I wished I hadn’t done, I’m still embarrassed”: Sandra Bullock Still Regrets Ruining Keanu Reeves’ Speed Legacy With a Horrible Sequel
Sandra Bullock has starred in numerous Hollywood blockbusters. Although she has become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, not all her movies have been the biggest hits of her career. And The Lost City star doesn’t shy away from admitting the films that she regrets starring in and were not very well received by the audience. One of these films also includes the sequel to the 1994 film Speed starring Keanu Reeves, Dennis Hopper, and Sandra Bullock.
Following the commercial and critical success of the first film, the studio decided to work on a sequel for the film starring. However, Keanu Reeves did not reprise his role as Jack Traven in the sequel. The film was released featuring the Gravity star and Jason Patric.
Sandra Bullock Regrets Doing Speed 2: Cruise Control
Although the first film was praised everywhere, the sequel was unable to follow the same path. It only managed to gross $48 million at the box office with a 4% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film turned out to be one of the biggest flops of Sandra Bullock’s career, and it did not come as surprise when the American-German actress shared her regrets regarding the 1997 sequel.
During the promotion of her 2022 film, The Lost City, Bullock shared that she is still “embarrassed” about doing the Speed sequel. “I have one [that] no one came around to, and I’m still embarrassed I was in. It’s called Speed 2,” she said. Bullock further shared that she does not know a singer person who would have enjoyed the film.
“I’ve been very vocal about it. Makes no sense. Slow boat. Slowly going towards an island. That’s one I wished I hadn’t done, and no fans came around that I know of, except for you.”
While Bullock felt that the sequel was much weaker than the original film after featuring in it, Reeves had some idea about its fate after reading the script. During an appearance on The Graham Norton Show, the Matrix star shared that although he wanted to work with The Heat star, he still refused to work in the sequel as he did not have a good feeling about it.
Sandra Bullock’s No Sequel Rule
So far, Sandra Bullock has starred in two sequels, and both of them have left the actress regretting her decision. In addition to the Speed sequel, she starred in the sequel to her 2000 film Miss Congeniality. The sequel failed to make it big at the box office, and critics also review-bombed the sequel.
And when she was asked about her sequels, Bullock simply said, “Mine are all stinkers.” During her interview with Variety, she shared that learning from her failed sequels, she has come up with a no-sequels rule.
However, when asked if she would be starring in the sequel of The Lost City, she said that she could give it a thought if the writer of the film, Dana Fox, could come up with a brilliant idea. Sandra Bullock is also expected to reprise her role as Malorie in the sequel to the sequel of 2018 science fiction horror Bird Box.
