“The audience is losing their minds”: Anne Hathaway’s Moment of Glory While Performing a Shakespearean Play Quickly Turned Sour When a Family of Raccoons Showed Up
Anne Hathaway gained recognition in Hollywood with her role as Princess Mia in the 2001 Disney film The Princess Diaries. The role left a lasting impression on the audience and the actress became people’s princess. Hearts are not all she has won as she even has an Academy Award, a BAFTA, and a Primetime Emmy Award among other accolades.
In the past two decades, from Fantine in Les Miserables to Catwoman in The Dark Knight Rises, Hathaway has played numerous memorable roles. Although she had been good at acting since her teenage years, she was having trouble delivering a line in a Shakespearean play one time. When she thought she finally did, she was in for a surprise.
Anne Hathaway Has Taken a Lighter Role
Anne Hathaway has never been one to stick to a particular type of role. Her filmography features diverse characters. Even as a young girl, she knew what she needed to do and so, to avoid being typecast, she decided to switch to adult roles in 2005. This decision proved to be right as she continued nailing her performances.
This time around, Anne Hathaway has switched to a lighter role with the romantic comedy The Idea of You. The actors are busy promoting the movie through appearances at premieres, talk shows, and other such events. Hathaway recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, where they discussed a lot of things.
A Family of Raccoons Stole Anne Hathaway’s Spotlight
Host Jimmy Fallon mentioned to her that he had seen her performing Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night at the Delacorte Theatre in Central Park. When asked if she ever got nervous or if there was ever an incidence when something went wrong. The Brokeback Mountain actress recalled a hilarious incident that involved a family of raccoons.

She said that every night she would try to make a particular line funny. One night, she said it and everyone was thrilled.
“The audience is losing their minds. I look into the wings, the cast is losing their minds, I’m high-fiving myself in my head. I was like ”I’ve arrived. This is happening.” And I get off stage and they go, ”Did you see the raccoons?”
Hilariously, what she assumed to be her achievement actually turned out to be the raccoons’ doing because they came out from behind her just as she said her line. Everyone’s attention was on those cute animals when poor Hathaway said the line she had been trying to deliver perfectly for so long.
What is The Idea of You About?
The film stars her in the lead role of a 40-year-old single mother Solène Marchand who falls for Nicholas Galitzine’s Hayes Campbell, the 26-year-old lead singer of the boy band August Moon. The duo strikes up a romance after meeting at Coachella, where Solène had taken her teenage daughter at her ex-husband’s request.
On being asked if Hathaway could tell that Galitzine was the perfect Hayes, she agreed saying that it has been two since they first met each other and they are really good friends now. For those unversed, the British actor plays a lead role in the movie Red, White, and Royal Blue, based on the eponymous novel, and the SkyTV historical psychodrama Mary & George, in which he stars alongside Julianne Moore.
The Idea of You will be available for streaming on Prime Video on May 2.
