Loki Once Came Close to Become the POTUS

Tom Hiddleston as Loki

Loki, the Norse God of mischief and lies, has been brilliantly portrayed by Tom Hiddleston for almost over a decade. He was adopted by the royal family of Asgard as a kid, which makes him the brother of Thor. Known for his cunning and manipulative ways, Loki has a penchant for causing chaos.

Being narcissistic and younger than Thor, Loki never becomes the King of Asgard. Loki, being himself, then decides to take on the most powerful political endeavor on the planet, because why not?

Loki

The storyline of Loki running for office is covered in the 2016 four-part comic by Christopher Hastings, titled Vote Loki. Essentially, the comic was a satirical take on the election debacle going on in the country at the time.

The story is thought-provoking, as it explores the dynamics of media and politics, acting as a mirror to the real-world state of the legislature.

However, it is done in classic Loki fashion.

Loki’s Campaign For The Presidential Election

Loki, driven by his political ambitions, goes to great lengths to achieve his goals. However, in classic Loki fashion, his presidential campaign is not limited to flyers, rallies, and speeches.

The Trickster God orchestrates several terror attacks and plays into the American public’s disbelief. After, he emerges as their savior. To prove his power, Loki invades the home of Doctor Doom. All he wants is to be in charge like the literal God he is.

However, this extravagant ordeal of duplicity does not last long. A reporter, Nisa Contreras’ attempts to prove his duplicity, do not bring any favorable consequences to Loki.

This storyline gained more traction when the Disney+ series, Loki, showed the Asgardian prince wearing a ‘Loki for President’ pin badge on the lapel of his coat.

One of the most successful Marvel shows, Loki will return with a season 2 on Disney+ on October 5, 2023.

Frequently asked questions

In which Marvel comic does Loki run for President of the United States?

Loki’s presidential run is the premise of Vote Loki, a four-part Marvel comic series written by Christopher Hastings and published in 2016. It was conceived as a satirical take on the U.S. election cycle of that year, using the God of Mischief to comment on media spin and political theater rather than depicting events from the main Avengers films.

What tactics does Loki use in his campaign in Vote Loki?

In the comic, Loki’s campaign goes well beyond normal politicking. He manufactures crises and then casts himself as the public’s savior, makes a show of force that includes confronting Doctor Doom, and leans on charisma and misdirection. Reporter Nisa Contreras tries to expose his double-dealing but struggles to make it stick, which is central to the story’s satire on how voters respond to spectacle.

Is Loki’s presidential storyline part of the MCU films, or just the comics?

The full presidential-campaign plot comes from the comics (Vote Loki), not the live-action films. The idea was nodded to on screen in Season 1 of Disney+’s Loki (2021), where a Loki variant is seen wearing a "Loki for President" pin. Any deeper film or series adaptation of the actual storyline remains fan speculation rather than something Marvel has confirmed.
