“The Blind Side will never be a lie or a fake”: Studio Defends Unwanted Backlash Against Sandra Bullock After Death of Her Long Time Partner
Sandra Bullock has starred in numerous blockbuster movies. One of these was 2010’s The Blind Side in which she played the role of Leigh Anne, the adoptive mother of the NFL footballer Michael Oher. Her strong performance in the movie earned her the Academy Award for Best Actress.
The Blind Side’s authenticity has been questioned in the last couple of weeks following Michael Oher, the former NFL star’s lawsuit against the Tuohy family. With all the controversy, Alcon Entertainment has recently released a statement trying to defend the movie’s accuracy.
Alcon Entertainment Supports Sandra Bullock
The statements which have been released by Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson through The Hollywood Reporter allege that the claims made by Oher are all false and the notion about Tuohys being paid millions of dollars by the studio to the detriment of Oher isn’t the correct information.
In the statement, Kosove and Johnson spoke on the questionable validity of the movie as some people called for Sandra Bullock following the controversy. The statement read:
“The film rights to Michael Lewis’ book, and the associated rights contracts were negotiated by Twentieth Century Fox and inherited by Alcon when the film was put in turnaround… The deal that was made by Fox for the Tuohys’ and Michael Oher’s life rights was consistent with the marketplace at that time for the rights of relatively unknown individuals.”
Amidst the ongoing controversy, it’s rumored that Sandra Bullock, too, isn’t happy about hearing the real family who was behind the movie remain at odds, while Quinton Aaron, who played Oher, expressed continued pride for the movie, despite all the claims. Alcon ended the statement by saying the studio remains proud of The Blind Side despite all recent claims.
Alcon Entertainment’s Defends The Blind Side
In the lawsuit, it’s been claimed by Oher that Tuohys didn’t adopt him, and they tricked him into signing the document before his 18th birthday, which made them the conservators. He even claimed that they were profiting off from the royalties of the film, which he didn’t receive any kind of compensation for.
About the claims made by Oher, a statement was released by Alcon Entertainment. Herein, it was said that
“The Blind Side is verifiably authentic and will never be a lie or fake, regardless of the familial ups and downs that have occurred subsequent to the film. Indeed, scores of trusted individuals, not the least of whom is Michael Lewis, one of our country’s most respected writers and journalists and the author of the book The Blind Side, have spoken of their first-hand knowledge of the authenticity of the Tuohys loving Michael dearly and raising Michael as their son through the end of high school, and then throughout college and onto the NFL.”

Tuohys has denied Oher’s allegations, and as of now, the case continues. The studio later, through a statement, even defended the accuracy of the Sandra Bullock starrer film, saying the movie is based on Michael Oher’s true story. It was further added that it “takes creative license in some areas, but it is always faithful to the spirit of the story.” The statement even states that Alcon Entertainment is confident that the movie is an accurate depiction of Michael Oher’s life.
