Ezra Miller’s The Flash was released in theaters on June 16. The film followed Miller on a solo journey as the Scarlet Speedster. The Flash in DCEU was first introduced in 2017’s Justice League after a brief tease in 2016’s Batman v Superman. The DCEU film was one of the highly anticipated releases. The movie’s makers believed it would succeed at the box office and end DC’s string of dud films. However, things don’t look so good.

The Flash is based on the Flashpoint storyline and follows Barry Allen, who unwittingly changes history to save his mother from being killed. Allen releases the DC Multiverse to save his mother. As the movie brought back several characters, fans were thrilled by the multiverse element. Warner Bros. marketed Ezra Miller’s film as the finest superhero movie ever filmed, and both the general audience and reviewers gave positive reviews. Despite these reviews, the film has failed at the box office. The Flash has seen a drop in ticket sales that is almost as severe as the superhero disaster movie, Morbius from last year.

The much-awaited The Flash hit theatres on June 16, 2023. It took a while for the Ezra Miller-led movie to happen after it was initially announced in 2014. The Flash faced many controversies over the years. After many ups and downs, the movie eventually hit theatres, but audiences weren’t interested in it.

The Flash opened to barely $55.1 million in its first weekend, far less than the box office projection. The expected earnings for the movie in the first week were around $70M. Miller’s superhero film’s second-weekend box receipts saw a significant drop. With a worse-than-anticipated 73 percent dip, it is anticipated to conclude Sunday with a 3-day total of $15.3 million, placing it at No. 3 on the weekend list.

The Flash makes the record for having a second-weekend decline in the history of the DC Universe, which is almost as bad as Morbius, which saw a 73.8 percent decline, which resulted in a domestic total of under $75 million. The film had a budget of about $220 million and is one of the costliest movies in DCEU. The Flash has collected $210.9 million worldwide, which is nearly enough to make back its production budget.

The film directed by Andy Muschietti and starring the controversial Ezra Miller, was supposed to be one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.

Andy Muschietti has stated that Ezra Miller will return to play the Scarlet Speedster in a sequel to The Flash. According to other rumors, David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick has already completed writing the script for The Flash 2.

However, Muschietti stated that the sequel would only be approved if the recently released film could perform well. The director mentioned how “the multiverse allows all of these different worlds to coexist” and that, hopefully, The Flash will see a follow-up. Looking at the figures of The Flash, it is hard to say there will be a sequel.

The Flash 2 was rumored to have Michael Keaton as Batman and other characters including Supergirl. The sequel would also have included Ben Affelck’s Batman as the film introduced the idea of the multiverse.

The Flash is available in theaters worldwide.
