General Zod is undoubtedly a well-known and well-executed supervillain figure in the DC world. Played by Michael Shannon, the character reappeared for a second time on the screen as the main antagonist in The Flash. However, Shannon has admitted that despite enjoying the process of being in superhero films, he is not a fan of this genre as a viewer.

Furthermore expressing the type of commitment he puts into the characters, the actor revealed that he even rejected the offer to act in own of the biggest franchise of all time because he did not vibe with the story.

Reprising his role as General Zod in the recently released The Flash, Michael Shannon is back on the screen. The last time he portrayed the role was back in 2013 in DCEU’s Man of Steel. Although he has put his best in for such a role, the actor also admitted that he is not a fan of the Superhero film genre as a viewer despite enjoying working in one.

And not only that but the actor has also revealed that he does not accept roles even if means joining a big franchise such as Star Wars. He opened up about receiving the opportunity to play a supervillain role in the franchise, however, Shannon rejected the offer because he seemingly does not like the idea of getting stuck in a franchise.

In addition to that, he also mentioned that working in big franchises was not “stimulating”. Talking to Empire the 48-year-old actor said,

“I’m always a bit wary about those giant movies,”

As for his reason for working in Man of Steel instead of Star Wars, Shannon explained the plot of the former 2013 film and how it reflected the real world. That seems to have made the story feel relevant to him and hence his decision to take part in it.

On the 16th of this month, DCU released its highly-anticipated film The Flash starring Ezra Miller as the speedster. The plot follows the Flashpoint story arc where Barry Allen/Flash goes back in time to try and save his mother’s life. However, in doing so, he causes multiversal chaos.

The main antagonist in the story is General Zod (Michael Shannon). His power includes super speed, the ability to travel in time, etc. Apart from that, the Dark Flash is also a part of the story.
