In late 2019, the action comedy movie The Gentlemen, directed and produced by Guy Ritchie, was released to positive critical reviews. It follows a cannabis empire leader in England who faces violent conflict when he attempts to sell off his business. In the world of sequels, Ritchie decided to turn it into a franchise by making a series based on it.

While the movie starred Matthew McConaughey in the lead role of Mickey Pearson, the spin-off series The Gentlemen is going to be led by The Divergent Series film trilogy star Theo James. The first look of this series was released in November 2023, and the streaming service has recently dropped a trailer for the series.

Speaking on the making of The Gentlemen series, in early 2023, Ritchie told Time:

“The attractive thing about The Gentleman is it’s a TV series. I have to say that is a beguiling departure from just making films. When you realize how immersive you can become within certain worlds, TV does become very attractive.”

The Sherlock Holmes director went on to say that he is a binge-watching kind of person so he is not much different from the average audience that likes to rip off the band-aid in one go.

All eight episodes of The Gentlemen will be available for streaming on Netflix in March 2024.
