As they say, music connects the world, here, music composer Rob Simonsen connected the two movies. Simonsen is the man behind the music for both Deadpool & Wolverine and It Ends with Us.

Simonsen’s story of Hollywood success is all about passion and perseverance. He started his musical journey by playing piano in bands, and then he got into formal music education. His big break came with the 2013 film The Way, Way Back, which put him on the map.

Since then, Simonsen has been adding some impressive credits to his name. He has been the music composer for films like The Spectacular Now, Foxcatcher, and Love, Simon. Moreover, he worked in Blake Lively’s The Age of Adaline as well.

He got associated with Ryan Reynolds when he scored The Adam Project in 2022. Their partnership clearly worked out well because Reynolds brought him back for Deadpool & Wolverine. Other than that, Simonsen recently scored for It Ends with Us and Blake Lively has been a fan of his work.

According to People, Lively and Simonsen had an interaction on Instagram where Lively stayed true to her nature and put a story where she wrote, “Yeah the @deadpoolmovie composer. My husband and I share more than children.” Simonsen also reshared her Instagram story and wrote back, “True story ©blakelively’s music taste are second to none.”

In a recent interview on ExtraTV, Lively talked about having Simonsen as the common collaborator between her and Reynolds. She said,

I also love Rob Simonsen so much. He’s so great. My husband and I both worked with him on a couple. He did The Adam Project and The Age of Adeline and Deadpool and now he just did the most beautiful..the Atlas theme is actually my favorite.

Lively’s upcoming movie is based on a bestselling novel by Colleen Hoover, where she plays Lily Bloom, who is a college graduate and falls for a guy named Ryle Kincaid. But things get complicated when her first love comes back into the picture.

Simonsen revealed some secrets of his work on Deadpool & Wolverine at the recent Comic-Con panel. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he described the film as “exhaustingly funny.”

Simonsen’s approach to the score was all about having fun, and it helped him get the perfect irreverent tone of the Deadpool franchise. He said that although the stakes are pretty high, he felt that they are a bit less for him in some ways due to his ability to have fun while working.

Talking about his previous collaboration with Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds in The Adam Project, Simonsen said that he “felt very protected and shielded” from the weight of Deadpool & Wolverine and his experience was quite the same for this movie. However, he appreciated the film’s range, saying,

We get to be very orchestral and very emotional, and other times, we get to be wacky and weird and ADD about it. It was a pretty broad canvas to be able to paint on, and to be honest, it was just a blast.

Simonsen’s work on both Deadpool & Wolverine and It Ends with Us shows his range as a composer. From superhero antics to romantic drama, he is proving he can do it all.

It Ends with Us will be released in theaters on August 9, 2024.
