Kristen Stweart kickstarted her professional acting career at the age of eight. After a year of auditioning, she landed a non-speaking role in the Disney film The Thirteenth Year. She became a star in the Hollywood entertainment industry with the role of Bella Swan in the fantasy film series Twilight, based on Stephenie Meyer’s eponymous novel series.

Kristen Stewart’s strong chemistry with Pattinson in the movie culminated in a real-life relationship between the two. Stewart seemingly had everything at this moment in her life until one day everything went up in flames due to the paparazzi pictures of her kissing a man who was not her boyfriend. When the whole world seemed to have turned their backs on her, Panic Room co-star Jodie Foster came to her rescue and Stewart will forever be grateful for that.

Jodie Foster Defended Kristen Stewart When No One Else Would

In 2012, the pictures of Kristen Stewart kissing Snow White and the Huntsman director Rupert Sanders were all over the internet. While Stewart was in a relationship with Pattinson, Sanders was married. So, this whole thing put a magnifying lens on the actress. One that would not be put down for a long time even after she issued a public apology. It took an emotional toll on her, but the media and public were none the wiser.

Kristen Stewart had worked with Jodie Foster in the 2002 thriller Panic Room. Having been in the industry since she was three years old, there is probably no one who understands the importance of privacy more than Foster does. Speaking of the whole scandal involving Sanders and Stewart, The Accused actress said to Variety:

“The whole thing was just stupid. When you’re in your 20s, you do all sorts of stupid shit. I felt for her. I wish for her that she had the space and the privacy to be able to explore herself so that she could be a full human being.”

Foster had written an op-ed for The Daily Beast in 2012, defending Stewart the best she could. The media and fans often forget that these celebrities deserve the privacy and space to grow as people no matter how famous they are, and this brutality often comes with a price that the celebrities have to pay. All because they chose to make a living out of what they love to do.

Jodie Foster on How She Feels About Kristen Stewart

Jodie Foster is one of the best actresses of her generation. She is practically a legend. Moreso because of the courage she showed by coming out as a member of the queer community when people were not this accepting of such individuals and despite her fear of not being accepted. Ironically, a couple of years later, Kristen Stewart would follow in her footsteps by coming out and setting an example.

In the interview with Variety, Foster divulged how she felt about Kristen Stewart being candid about her identity as a queer individual, saying:

“She feels like a daughter to me. I worried that the job would swallow up what was best about her, because I worried about that for myself. There was a sort of unconscious similarity between us. I guess that’s why I’ve always felt so protective of her, because I wanted her to grow into the person she was meant to be.”

Jodie Foster has motherly concerns for the Spencer actress, and a mother always knows. She unpromptedly spoke up for Kristen Stewart when she most needed it. This is probably the biggest sign of the motherly protectiveness she feels towards the younger actress.
