“There is nothing great about that movie”: Matt Damon’s Harshest Critic Showed Him No Mercy After His $334 Million Flop Movie
The Martian actor Matt Damon needs no introduction to the world of entertainment. His excellence as an actor got proven back in 1997 with Robbin William’s Good Will Hunting. The actor has been the face behind the action-drama franchise, Jason Bourne, for over a decade.
Matt Damon wears multiple hats as he is not only a great actor but also a talented screenwriter and producer too. Despite being so gifted, the actor is quite conscious of one of his biggest critics with respect to his projects.
Matt Damon’s Harshest Critic Is His 15-Year-Old Daughter
For The Bourne Legacy actor, his harshest critics are his own kids. During the promotion of his biographical epic Oppenheimer, the Academy Award recipient was present on the talk show Capital FM. He spoke about his association with Christopher Nolan’s directorial venture, his Good Will Hunting days, His bond with his best friend Ben Affleck, and most importantly his harshest critic.
Matt Damon revealed that his 15-year-old daughter Isabella is his harshest critic and never fails to keep him grounded with respect to his work. He said-
“If the reviews come out and they’re terrible, then she’ll watch it. If they come out and they’re good, she’s going to pass… She’s looking for ammunition all the time. She’s like one of the funniest people I’ve ever met. She’s really cool.”
During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the actor revealed that his daughter refused to watch one of his critically acclaimed movies Good Will Hunting. Matt Damon recalled-
“She doesn’t want to see any movies that I’m in that she thinks might be good. She just likes to give me s—,” he joked. “My daughter said, ‘Hey, remember that movie you did, The Wall?’ I said, ‘It was called The Great Wall.’ She goes, ‘Dad, there was nothing great about that movie.’ She keeps my feet firmly on the ground.”
For certain actors, it is very easy to please the world, but quite difficult to please their own kids and Mat Damon tops the chart.
Matt Damon On His Oppenheimer Co-star Cillian Murphy
Matt Damon was all praise for his Oppenheimer co-star Cillian Murphy during the filming of the sci-fi biographical saga. The movie is based on the life of the famous theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer. The titular role is played by the Peaky Blinders actor Cillian Murphy. Matt Damon is portraying the role of the director of The Manhattan Project, Lieutenant General Lesley Groves, from the US Army. The Departed actor could not stop gushing about his co-star Cillian Murphy during an interview with the E! News. The actor said-
“At the outset of this movie, Christopher said, ‘Look, I’m putting this entire thing on Cillian’s back’. The script was written in the first person, so rather than, say, ‘Oppenheimer walks across the room’, it says, ‘I walk across the room’. We’re coming right through this guy’s eyes, and trying to get inside his head.
He further continued as-
“But watching Cillian and Chris together – because I do think when a role is this central, and Chris wrote and directed it – the two of them were just locked together. There was this symbiosis. They really built this thing, this Oppenheimer character, together. The camera is always in just the right place, with Cillian, everything is perfectly calibrated. He’s in every frame of this movie and, again, it’s why the movie works.”
The picture-perfect casting of the actors in Oppenheimer speaks volumes about the brilliance of Christopher Nolan. The legendary director is quite famous for his dedication to his projects and the box office collection and craze in Nolan fans is quite enough to justify this.
