“You should tell someone if they have bad breath”: Matt Damon Begrudgingly Kissed Scarlett Johansson Despite Her Terrible Breath After Being Too Afraid to Confront Marvel Star
Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson starred in a brilliant comedy We Bought a Zoo over a decade ago, and the experience of working in the movie is still imprinted in the actor’s mind.
In the movie, Damon plays a Los Angeles journalist Benjamin Mee who, following his wife’s death, moves to a large property that is home to plenty of animals and there he meets Kelly Foster (Scarlett Johansson).
The feel-good movie got good reviews and the plot had a happy ending for Mee. But it appears Damon’s memory of the movie isn’t that rosy. Rather, let’s just say it’s oniony!
Matt Damon Explains Why It Was Horrible to Kiss Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Johansson is a heartthrob for millions thanks to her role as Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’d be an understatement to say some Marvel fans would go to any lengths to just get a selfie with her, let alone a kiss.
Matt Damon is one of the lucky ones who managed to get that close to the acclaimed actress thanks to his role in We Bought a Zoo. However, for a bizarre reason and ill-timing, the Good Will Hunting star’s task of kissing her at that moment turned into a punishing job.
During an interview with LADbible, Damon was playing a game of Agree to Disagree with his Oppenheimer co-star Emily Blunt. One of the statements in the session read: “You should tell someone if they have bad breath.”
The 52-year-old took little time to strongly agree with the statement and recalled the instance with Johansson that’s still vividly imprinted in his mind. He jokingly said it was “hell”, telling Blunt: “Can you imagine how horrible that was for me?”
We Bought a Zoo actor then went on to elaborate the story, revealing: “We went to lunch and she and I both thought it was over. She ate an onion sandwich for lunch and she came in and Cameron Crowe had set the camera up and it was a tight shot of the kiss, and she goes, ‘Oh shit, I literally just had an onion sandwich!’.”
Blunt then posed a question if he was still aroused getting to kiss the gorgeous actress. Damon, however, admitted he was busy making fun of Johansson and didn’t even smell anything all that time. He added her co-star’s breath actually smells like roses.
What Is Matt Damon’s Role in Oppenheimer?
Blunt and Damon appeared on the fun interview show to promote their film Oppenheimer, which is now in theaters.
The likes of Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr. are attracting the majority share of the limelight for their work in the documentary feature, with some fans even suggesting Oscar nominations for the duo. But Damon also plays an important role in Christopher Nolan’s film.
The Departed’s Colin Sullivan portrays General Leslie Groves, who was the head of the Manhattan Project. Groves picked J. Robert Oppenheimer to oversee the atomic bomb project.
