American fashion designer Alexander Wang entered the commercial matrix in 2005 with the launch of his eponymous fashion brand. However, he might have gone a little overboard with his new bag campaigning by using look-alikes of Taylor Swift and Ariana Grande.

Famous for his urban-inspired designs and his love for black, Wang’s brand was awarded the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in 2008. He has also received accolades like Swarovski Womenswear Designer of the Year in 2009 and CFDA’s Best Accessory Designer award in 2011. Apparently, 2024 will also be memorable for him even if it’s for the wrong reasons.

American fashion mogul Alexander Wang has recently come up with a bizarre promotion of his new bag design. Wang has used lookalikes of famous celebrities and singers in the bag campaign. He recently re-released the Rocco handbag from the 2010s and in doing so, featured the doppelgängers of many celebrated stars to promote the studded bag.

In addition to Swift and Grande, Wang has used lookalikes of Beyoncé and Kylie Jenner in the bag campaign as well. Although at first glance, the celebrities look real, the truth could not be further from it. In the ad posted on Wang’s official Instagram, these lookalikes can be seen promoting his designer bags.

Wang seems to have come up with this idea to impress the audience, but his plan has gone against him as many people are thrashing him for the campaign. Even his targeted audience has found the campaign awful. Fans are criticizing the campaign and have suggested the featured stars sue Wang for his actions.

This is not the first time a renowned brand has used look likes to promote their products, but legal action from the celebrities cannot be avoided. In 2019, The New York Times reported that Grande had sued the brand Forever 21 for endorsing its products on its social media accounts using photos of her and a look-alike model. So, there are chances of Alexander Wang being sued for using a similar strategy.

Fans have severely criticized Alexander Wang’s new marketing campaign, some of them asking the celebrities featured to sue the designer for such trickery.  Here is what some of the fans had to say regarding the campaign:

People have also decided against buying the bag that Wang is trying to market, and have labelled the promotion creepy.

However, some people have also argued that this is just a creative way of advertising one’s products. Although such comments might provide Wang with some relief, the big picture still appears problematic for the designer.
