Submarine malfunction halts Tom Cruise’s Mission: Impossible 8

After the success of Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, Tom Cruise and the audience were excited to see how the story would move forward in the eighth installment. However, the production of the eighth installment is facing yet another setback, forcing them to delay the process.

According to The Mirror, Paramount has decided to put a halt to the filming of Mission: Impossible 8 due to a set malfunction. The $23 million submarine that was needed to film was detected to be malfunctioning, putting a pause on production. The source reports,

The gimbal, which is used to lower the 12-foot-high structure, jammed under its weight and must now be repaired, pushing filming back weeks. They are not happy as it puts production behind, which costs a lot of money per day.

This is not the first time the production of Mission: Impossible 8 has been delayed; earlier, it was due to the COVID-19 pandemic, then it was WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The delay caused the costs of the film to dramatically increase, and currently, the budget of the film, according to World of Reel, is said to be near about $400 million.

Tom Cruise is reportedly stressed due to delays in Mission: Impossible 8 | Paramount Pictures

Tom Cruise, according to In Touch Weekly, is now feeling pressure and stress over the movie’s delay. A source close to the project shared with the publication that when the makers decided to put the movie on a full-year schedule, 75% of the movie was done with just one remaining giant action sequence to be filmed. They got to filming the sequence in the past few weeks, which is now again delayed.

It’s been an even slower and more confusing process for Tom than the long section of filming he did for Mission 7 at the height of the pandemic. And Tom’s infamous audio rant recording from that time showed the world how stressed he was.

The source suggested that the actor had made a deal for back-to-back Mission movies five years ago, and the project still has a lot of work to be done. He feels the pressure of hundreds of millions of dollars being on the line.
