‘They’re Just Tough’: Jennifer Lopez Pledges to Help Latina Entrepreneurs After Fan Outrage Over Shakira Comment
This Thursday, Jennifer Lopez spoke to Good Morning America about wanting to do something for Latina entrepreneurs. The Maid in Manhattan actress disclosed how she wanted to help her fellow Latinos get on their feet. The 52-year-old singer announced that she had partnered with Grameen America to give out more than $14 billion in loans to 600,000 low-income Latina entrepreneurs by 2030. Grameen America is a nonprofit finance organization.
Jennifer Lopez wants to “change the fabric” for Latin Entrepreneurs
Lopez told Good Morning America, “Honestly, I’m hoping to kind of change the fabric of America, especially for Latino women.” Sitting alongside Lopez was Andrea Jung, Grameen America’s president and CEO.
Jung said both she and Lopez resonated with the problems faced by Latin. They pointed out that capital needed to be more readily accessible for Latinas. Jung said that the Hustlers star is the “ultimate spokesperson” to help people “understand that they can change their lives.”
When asked by ABC News’ John Quiñones about why Latinas are such an important part of the country, Lopez replied, “They’re just tough. They’re made from a certain kind of fabric. They are entrepreneurial. They are inventive. They are creative.” The Ain’t Your Mama singer also got emotional when discussing the plight of her fellow Latinas.

She said, “When you get a little bit older, you understand the meaning behind things. You’ve seen enough and you had your own struggle, and you’ve seen enough of injustices. I just feel like this country needs more love and positivity and people who want to do good things and are not fighting against each other and who are just giving each other a hand up.”
Jung asked all the women out there, “If not you then who?“
Jennifer Lopez Had an Ugly Scene With Colombian Pop-Star Shakira
Lopez’s declaration on the morning talk show won a lot of people’s hearts. But this declaration comes soon after her comments regarding how she hated to perform with Shakira at the Super Bowl halftime show drew the masses’ ire for hating on a fellow Latina.
But what Jennifer Lopez was actually annoyed by was the decision to cut short her performance and have two people perform a traditionally single-person performance.
