Zac Efron had a scare while on vacation in Ibiza. The actor was at a villa on the Spanish island when the incident occurred while he was taking a dip. On August 2, he ended up in the hospital after the frightening incident.
Efron was enjoying a break after a busy year, which included roles in The Iron Claw, Ricky Stanicky, and the Netflix romantic comedy The Family Affair with Nicole Kidman and Joey King. The good news is that he did not suffer any major injuries.
Zac Efron Hospitalized After Pool Accident in Ibiza
A spokesperson for Zac Efron told TMZ that he was involved in a “minor swimming incident” and was taken to the hospital just to be safe. Thankfully, the 36-year-old was released from the hospital the next day and is doing well.
The source, although, shared a more concerning detail: two staff members found Efron in the pool and had to pull him out. The star has been having a great summer traveling around Europe. He attended major events like Prelude to the Olympics on July 25 and even joined DJ Martin Garrix on stage at a concert in Ibiza on August 1.
A few years ago, Efron had a serious accident where he broke his jaw and needed surgery to repair it. He also did physical therapy, which changed his jawline, as he shared with Men’s Health in 2022. It looks like the Cal native seems to be experiencing a series of unfortunate events, with little to no respite.

His latest Instagram story (via SportsCenter) was on July 31, where he praised Simone Biles at the Paris 2024 Olympics. “So incredibly proud of you,” he wrote. The High School Musical alum hasn’t mentioned his swimming incident or Ibiza trip on social media yet.

As Zac Efron recovers from this incident, his career is still going strong. A24 has teamed up with him again for a new thriller called Famous. In this movie, Efron will play both an obsessive fan and the Hollywood star he admires.
Famous, based on the best-selling novel by Blake Crouch, tells the story of Lance Dunkquist, a man who looks a lot like a famous actor. Determined to become a star, Lance sets off on a risky journey to Los Angeles, ready to do whatever it takes to achieve his dream.
Jody Hill, known for his comedy shows Vice Principals and Eastbound and Down, will direct the film. This project brings Efron and A24 together again after their last hit, The Iron Claw, which was a box-office success and earned Efron some of his best reviews.
