After a transgender teen took second place in the girls’ Meet of Champions race in California, Caitlyn Jenner (formerly Bruce Jenner) recently expressed her disappointment.

After deciding to transition in 2015, Jenner, who had won a gold medal in the decathlon at the 1976 Montreal Olympics, is now a fierce supporter of transgender rights. She has formerly mentioned that in recent years, she has noticed that so many individuals are now openly identifying as transgender adding that this is explained by “indoctrination” and “oversaturation of the topic. She has also been an outspoken critic of transgender women competing in sports against other women.

Caitlyn Jenner disapproves of Athena Ryan’s participation

Athena Ryan, a junior at Sonoma Academy and a transgender athlete, won the silver medal in the girls’ 1-600-meter run at the North Coast Meet of Champions of California finals. She will now compete in the state track and field championships of the California Interscholastic Federation the following week.

The former reality star, Caitlyn Jenner took to her social media to share her view, stating after Outkick’s founder Clay Travis shared an article written by one of his staffers stating  “A male high school student, who would have finished last for boys in the 1600 meter race, came in second for girls & stole a state title race spot from a deserving girl. Look at the fourth-place girl in the picture. She is pissed off, as she should be.”

Caitlyn Jenner wrote, “As ‘somewhat’ of a track star myself, and a trans person, THIS IS WRONG!!! HELP ME PUSH BACK!” She further added, “And FYA, trans people you are being used by the radical gender ideology cult as political pawns. That’s all you are to them.”  However, people disagreed with Caitlyn Jenner’s views on the situation as they slam her for being the flag-bearer of finding a space in the women’s world. Some pointed out that she should give back all the ‘Woman of the Year’ awards and some stated that she started this.

Athena Ryan’s fellow athlete Adeline Johnson sparks controversy

Adeline Johnson, a fellow competitor who finished fourth and will miss the opportunity to advance to the California Interscholastic Federation State Track and Field Championship, was edged out by Athena Ryan’s victory. However, a video of her making a thumbs-down gesture at the podium placement ceremony in Dublin, California has gone viral.

Later clarification from Branson High School stated that Adeline Johnson’s gesture had nothing to do with Athena Ryan’s victory or her transgender identity and that the gesture and the entire incident had been taken out of context. They claimed that the action was a retort to her mother’s criticism of her performance.

Nathalie Gray, the assistant head of school, told The Post in a statement that Johnson’s gesture shouldn’t be interpreted as a criticism of her rivals because it wasn’t. Gray continued by saying that the school encourages and recognizes all of the athletes for their achievements.

‘Protect Female Sports’

A group of protesters reportedly showed up at the event with a banner that read “Protect Female Sports” before Adeline Johnson’s “thumbs-down” gesture went viral. It was unclear why they were there because it wasn’t made clear if they were connected to the competitors or the schools, or if they were simply picking on the event because a trans teen was competing.

The protestors were later removed from the event but it has been said that the group has repeatedly misgendered the trans student.  Ryan, whose finishing time was 4:55.91 shared with MileSplit after her win, “I wasn’t expecting that. I dropped like 17 seconds from my season’s best in the past two weeks. After last weekend, I didn’t think I could run low 5s again. I was just coming here trying to break 5 – just glad I finished it out.”

Athena Ryan also mentioned that it does not matter if she wins or loses, but she is going to have fun at the California Interscholastic Federation State Track $ Field Championship next week.
